@FCC @BrendanCarrFCC
I request that the Commission exercise its administrative authority under the Communications Act of 1934 to investigate NBC regarding a recent Saturday Night Live segment. The broadcast in question depicted an assassination attempt on President Donald Trump, a choice that constitutes a gross misuse of the public airwaves.
While the FCC’s oversight under 18 U.S.C. § 1464 typically addresses obscene or indecent material, I contend that the normalization and trivialization of political violence against a sitting President is profoundly "indecent" in a civil society and fails the "public interest, convenience, and necessity" standard required for broadcast licensure.
Satire must not serve as a shield for content that incites or trivializes violence against our nation's leaders.
Such broadcasts do not serve the public; rather, they undermine national stability and public safety.
I urge the Commission to:
1. Investigate whether this broadcast violates NBC’s duty to the public interest.
2. Review NBC’s compliance with broadcast standards.
3. Apply appropriate penalties to ensure that public airwaves are not used to promote or make light of political assassination.
The American public expects and deserves a higher standard of conduct from its national broadcasters.
