It's just paid by Jewish organizations for everybody's benefit, just like other voluntary ambulances may be run by the Presbyterians or whoever wishes to pay and organize such a service.

@peterboghossian But the problem is that we are no longer in a civil society, because the people who have been entrusted with keeping it civil, judges above all else, are systematically engaging in the willful sacrifice of society to the supposed rights of its worst elements. Society cannot hold.

Many right leaning accounts are now openly advocating vigilante justice and denial of trials for suspects who commit heinous crimes. While the urge for vengeance is understandable, extra legal violence has no role in civil society.

Yes, there is a severe quality problem across the whole board. - Do you also think all new books suck? Yes, nearly 100% from large publishers is utter crap. - That authors forgot how to write? Those who haven't are largely black-listed by that dying industry. - Movies too? That's ground zero for catastrophic loss of writing and acting quality. - Video games??? AAA studios are dying from very poor releases. Indies are doing much better, thankfully. So, at least here, there is hope. But, yes, generally there's been a great loss of artistry on-going since the 1970s in western cultures, a Great Enshitification. And it's interesting you start with books, because this is probably where it all started, with trends like the emergence of navel-gazing nouveau roman in the 1950s, and continuous pomo deconstruction of the whole art since then. And interestingly, if movies are failing on very poor scripting, a good part of the blame falls with the plummeting cultural and artistic value of modern novels, which is where Hollywood traditionally found its stories. No more good novels, no more good movies. And that goes independently from Hollywood's internal problems, like the disastrous fall in diversity of experiences in writing rooms, now near exclusively populated with college grads with zero life experience outside of Los Angeles' “creative” circles.

Not to pick on anyone in particular, but there's a lot of people saying "Yeah this is because new music sucks". And respectfully, you should all think harder. Do you also think all new books suck? That authors forgot how to write? Movies too? Video games??? Because they're all seeing the same trend. Video games are an interesting space where, in a very objective sense, the games are MUCH better than they used to be. And yet people still increasingly just play older games. That should be your clue this isn't just "all art in every medium decided to suck at the same time". It's a story about technology and distribution.

I've written about this before, but it's remarkable how much older music is strangling new music. And the same is true in books, movies, video games. Older media is taking up a bigger and bigger share of the market every year.

Last summer Blake Lively tried to subpoena my credit card numbers, bank account, location data, and a host of other private personal information because she didn’t like what I said about her online. Lively thought that surely no one could organically disbelieve her claims or criticize her. It must have been the secret work of Justin Baldoni! I watched as the news outlets shared ugly screenshots of me and ran stories while asking Blake’s attorneys for comment but never asking me. Only @JoshTBoswell from the Daily Mail bothered to reach out. I watched as random faux feminists then picked me apart for my looks and called me a misogynist because I’m not okay with an elitist jerk abusing our court systems to punish people she doesn’t like to the detriment of real victims. Because that is what Blake Lively does. She has the power and status to try to squash you like a bug if you do something she doesn’t like, and she subpoenaed 107 social media users (including someone with ONE subscriber) to try to terrorize anonymous accounts that criticized her. Today the federal judge gutted Blake Lively’s lawsuit. She flew too close to the sun trying to exploit California’s “Me Too” law to make herself look like a hero. Suffice to say… my credit card numbers couldn’t have saved her from that. I look forward to her losing her retaliation claims if she chooses to proceed to trial on the remaining claims.
