@bdk1521 My youngest son enjoyed tickle fights (ok, he still does). He would be laughing and would shout “stop!” I would stop immediately. He then asked why I stopped and I explained that when someone says to stop, you stop. If you don’t really want me to stop, then don’t say it.

Adolf Hitler is widely recognized as a criminal because his victims were Europeans. Yet King Leopold II, who killed about 10 to 15 million Africans, was for a long time honored with monuments and praise in Europe. That contrast exposes uncomfortable truths about how history has been framed. This says a lot about how the world has historically valued some lives more than others.

@jenniferdoleac @johnjhorton It’s not the breed, it’s not the dog, it’s the way their humans raise them. Pit Bulls can be the sweetest dogs. I had one, my neighbor with two young children has one who is wonderful with the kids. Unfortunately there are lousy owners who teach aggression.

1) You’d have to ask an etymologist, I just think it’s a hell of a funny coincidence if not. 2) Very unlikely beyond the consistent theme of love and violence being intertwined in R+J. The prologue tells us how the play ends and act I scene IV serves as the foreshadowing moment.

@AllisonRFloyd I think you’re exactly right, but two questions/thoughts: 1. Was the verb “come” used to reference orgasm in the Elizabethan era? 2. Couldn’t the reference to death have been both about sexual climax and a foreshadowing of the lovers’ fate?

@_JV_oo @queenie4rmnola When I was in college a few professors started asking for word count. It sucked for me because I still wrote my papers on an electric typewriter, rather than have to wait for an open computer in one of the campus computer centers.

@queenie4rmnola Did you have any instructors that would insist on a word count instead of pages. It was normal in my History BA. That way students could pick a font they liked as long as it fit the rubric formatting guidelines.
