@DanielPink Yes, if you have the capacity to make a contribution to others it has benefits for yourself, but when folks are struggling it is not uncommon to get caught up in the challenges of others’ lives as something of a distraction to taking care of oneself and one’s own challenges.

@DanielPink Sorry, this is totally off the mark. You cannot start by talking about the number of people experiencing mental ill health and then switch to people not experiencing optimal mental health and wellbeing and equate the two in terms of approach to improving their situation.

His Holiness’ Message for the New Year - 2024 On the occasion of the New Year, I would like to thank everyone who has sent me good wishes, and I offer my greetings to you all, brothers and sisters across the world. Despite the many challenges that we are facing today, I feel optimistic that with a growing appreciation of how interconnected we all are in the oneness of humanity, we can all work to lead more meaningful lives and create a better world. As human beings we share a common wish to be happy and free from pain. We are social animals who depend on others to survive. Therefore, as I often say, we should work for the benefit of others. If we cannot help them, we should at least make sure we do no harm. I have found that helping others is the best way of ensuring happiness and calm for ourselves. I also firmly believe that we can find peace in the world only when we find peace within. Every human being has the potential to cultivate inner peace, and by so doing to contribute to the peace of our global community. We must try to cultivate compassion and inner peace, regardless of our nationality or religion, we can contribute to the well-being and happiness of all mankind. If the last century was the century of violence, it is our responsibility to make this century the century of dialogue. Once again, I extend warm greetings to you all. I hope that you all enjoy an auspicious beginning to the new year, 2024. With prayers and good wishes, Dalai Lama

The climate change news today is frightening. What's more frightening is our Federal Government is still opening new coal mines and subsidising fossil fuel companies. Labor has to do better. theage.com.au/environment/cl…

The devastation in northern hemisphere is a deeply concerning sign of what may be in store for 🇦🇺 in this & future summers. We need leadership & bold action to protect the people & places we love. Yet 🇦🇺 govt keep approving new fossil fuel projects 🤯 abc.net.au/news/2023-07-2…

Last week the Albanese govt approved its third new coal mine extension in 12 months… while we’re looking at 2023 being the hottest year on record, and our methane emissions being far greater than has been appreciated. We just *can’t* keep doing this. abc.net.au/news/2023-07-0…

In Vienna, 80% of residents rent, and virtually every rental has some form of rent control. As a result residents rent for life and often pay as little as 8% of their income on rent (compared to over 30% for renters in Oz). 60% live in social housing. nytimes.com/2023/05/23/mag…

I'm thinking about developing a training program for collaborative leadership, i.e., how you create a context that brings out the best in others, especially when you *don't* have positional authority interested?
