@JhenriqueSRS @Goldxn_Violin "Ancient Greek" just means the literary form in a certain period, of the same language that is still alive today. The concept serves as a study device, it's not an actual distinct language from the current spoken vernacular. I speak Latin myself, pretty sure it's also not dead!

Cuando oigo a alguien hablar del griego como "lengua muerta" siento un profundo rechazo. Una lengua no deja de ser como un ser vivo en continuo movimiento, y lo que hoy entendemos por "griego antiguo" o "moderno" no son más que simples fotogramas de un incesante río de voces y de ecos. Desde Homero hasta ese panhelenismo irisado de Cavafis. Me siento profundamente en deuda con estos nombres, y honrado de haber compartido tramos inolvidables de mi vida traduciéndolos e intentándolos rehacer (con mayor o peor fortuna) en mi lengua materna.

Slop like this is so annoying. The modern Greeks have copied the style of certain ancient Athenian coins but there are thousands of years of Macedonian, Roman, Byzantine, Ottoman, and modern Greek history between the two. But slop sells like hotcakes.

The meme posted by this RealHellenist account is completely misleading. It suggests that the exact same design has appeared on all Greek coins for 2500 years, ignoring all that intervening history as well as the fact that the original coin design is Athenian. There were many different poleis in ancient Greece that produced coins and they were all Greek coins. The meme ignores that in order to peddle some misinformation that makes people think the same design has been used constantly for 2500 years.

@qyld1234 It does not. To think it does not requires one to think that brown hair (for which ancient Greek does not have a specific term) was non-existent in ancient Greece.
When the Greeks wanted to describe very light hair, they used πολιός, the hair color of old people, not ξανθός.
