Symposium booklet from the 1978 MUFON conference where Stringfield did his crash/retrieval presentation that changed everything. What’s particularly interesting about this is that he was originally slotted to do material surrounding his book “Situation Red” that had just been published the year prior. Material surrounding UFO case stories - especially those from the recent humanoid flap in 1973. He pivoted last minute and put together a presentation on crash/retrievals, which at the time was an almost entirely ignored topic due to the fallout from hoaxes and c/r stories like Aztec from decades prior. He spent a couple months before the symposium in July making a new presentation. The only people that knew about his new presentation were Walter Andrus (Director of MUFON at the time), and the printers of the booklets. He was very secretive about it for various reasons, and there are strange details about what happened at the presentation, involving J. Allen Hynek and others. I’m excited to finish my zine issue on Stringfield and share more of this story, as it genuinely shifted the entire UFO discussion.

If you aren’t familiar with David, go scope him out. He’s a terribly interesting fella. He illustrated the cover for Eric Wargo’s recent book “Becoming Timefaring” in a similar style. Wargo is another human that deserves your valuable attention, by the way. Go find these people and gobble up their work, it’s so good.

Interesting little piece of UFO history here. This is the June 1947 issue of Meade Layne’s “THE FLYING ROLL”. This was a mimeographed, very low production quantity, quarterly UFO/occult journal by Meade Layne (of BSRA), Israel Regardie, Nandor Fodor, etc. This was put out just before the Roswell event of the same year, and because it’s a quarterly journal, it’s the closest issue to its occurrence. Meade famously released a memorandum a month after this issue came out, on July 8, 1947 (exact date of Rozzy crash). See second pic. This particular FLYING ROLL issue belonged to UFO researcher Jim Moseley. He for some reason penciled “Excommunicatio” on the front cover. Not entirely sure what he was implying. Almost everything I have from Jim has something interesting or rude penned on the front.
