1/3 Requiescat in Pace: A Personal Remembrance of John Hwang (@tavon). Our colleague and friend, John Hwang, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on October 29, 2023. John was forty-four years old and leaves behind his wife Amy and three boys (ages 12, 11, and 7).

5/5 Now the Center for Asian American Christianity expands the legacy of the AAP as a research center with two research grants, funded by Luce (aarcoalition.org) and the Louisville Institute (caac.ptsem.edu/oral-history-p…), exploring Asian American faith, practice, and justice.

4/5 The Asian American Program was a gem in the Asian American theology and ministry space that helped attract generations of Asian American faith leaders to Princeton Seminary @ptseminary.

3/5 With vision and foresight, Lee created the Asian American Program @ptseminary in the late 1980s. Lee was the first director of the AAP. The AAP was an important institutional space that equipped and empowered Asian American ministry leaders.

2/5 Dr. Lee was an ecclesial theologian within the Reformed tradition who mentored generations of students. We recognize his passing with sadness and celebrate the legacy of his work in the Reformed tradition as well as in Asian American theology and ministry.

1/5 Prof. Sang Lee was not only an accomplished and significant voice in the field of Jonathan Edwards studies, he was a pioneering leader in the field of Asian American theology and ministry. Lee’s classes and publications advanced Asian American theology and church life.

It is with great sadness that I share the news of Professor Sang Hyun Lee's passing. He was the first director of the Asian American Program at Princeton Seminary and mentor to generations of students. May he rest in peace.

Happy to say that I defended my dissertation prospectus yesterday. Grateful for the faculty, colleagues, and friends who offered feedback and critical discussion—to have one’s ideas taken seriously and scrutinized by such brilliant folks is truly a gift. Now off to writing…
