Weekend warrior “Home on the range” agriculture is the passion, trying to keep up with family is the challenge. kicking a few “clods” around with Elders.

Trial block of wheat treated with Overwatch IBS then Mateno EPE last year. Strong residual effect during the summer fallow. Had 2 x camera sprays only for sowthistle & lettuce. Top shelf pre-ems but a low cost fallow. @WeedSmartAU

Using a single disc seeder? On average, there was a 17%, 28% & 37% reduction in canola establishment as MAP increased from 50, 100 and 150kg/ha compared to Nil MAP. Be aware of your SBU%. @GRDCNorth @NSWDPI_AGRONOMY

Are you sowing enough canola seeds? Here’s some results derived from an @theGRDC project that could help adjust seeding rates (kg/ha) based on small, medium or large seed size. Hope it helps.

Cereal vetch clover silage being fed to composite ewes. Low cost DM for holding bodyweight on stubbles in autumn. Added bonus of cleaning up resistant ryegrass last spring. Double break back to TT canola this year. Mixed farming win-win. @lvherbert_leo @mccoll_rob @WeedSmartAU

Double knock in the summer fallow is proving effective yet again. Terrador + paraquat 10-14 days after 2,4-D + glyp has controlled cudweed, fleabane & sowthistle. Plenty of pressure on spraying teams to get through the workload but satisfying to achieve success. @WeedSmartAU

I’d say 2 weeks ago I’ve just seen biggest hatching of fall armyworm here yet. 20+ per m row. Crop already sprayed and recovered nicely but shows how severe this pest can be even in snsw 😳

I commonly see headlands with better weed control than the rest of the pd. This sprayer is properly adjusted with section control timing (like most) and doesn’t overlap much onto the headlands. I have no feasible explanations.

Into some canola stubbles whilst hire machine is available. Very happy with the job these Brookfield knuckle chains do. @JJfarmequipment @MongrelHire

The attention to detail in fallow spray brews has never been more important imo. Resistant and hard to kill weeds now dominate most fallows. Ftr, jersey cudweed and Paraquat resistant fleabane have really made us earn our stripes as agros! #aggrowagronomy

Some photos on glyphosate efficacy impacted by resistance, hard water, physical incompatibility with 2,4-D amine and the importance of AMS to reduce antagonism. 6 pots on the left are sensitive ARG vs 6 pots with resistance on the right. Photo here is UTC.

Big roll up of growers in Lake Cargelligo to learn what’s critical with summer fallow spraying. Thank you to everyone who turned up & our fantastic speakers for their time & passion. Hats off to James Kearines, Elders for organising. @em_ayliffe @agrobaz @SmithJeshua @BolteRoger

Just to share! I recently found that there are 2 Emex species (‘jacks’ etc.). On left is E. australis, bigger seeds & leaves tend to be more rounded than E.spinosa with much smaller seeds. Both ‘prick of a weed’
