CBS Radio News calls it quits. 👋 WWJ 950 AM is the CBS affiliate for Detroit, which aired CBS national news at the top of each hour. CBS doesn't own WWJ and there are no planned changes other than the source of their national news updates. The current format at WWJ is 24/7 news, traffic, and weather given at specific hourly intervals. It's been that way since forever. The original tower and studios have long since moved.

Today, an administrative immigration judge ordered the deportation of Rafael Rubio, a City Council employee. This is an affront to justice. A dedicated public servant with legal authorization to remain in the country, Rafael showed up for a routine immigration appointment and, despite following the rules, he was detained and has now been held for months. He should be immediately released.

🧵2/2 **"Messin' the Blues"** by Robin Trower (from the 1976 album *Long Misty Days*) is a classic blues rock track featuring James Dewar on lead vocals. The lyrics capture a raw, defiant attitude toward hardship, loneliness, and the blues itself. ### Full Lyrics (Compiled from reliable sources like Genius and AZLyrics; slight variations may exist in live versions, but this is the standard studio recording.) Well I've been down so long that I can't get up Drink my life from an empty cup I ain't taking no messin' from the likes of you There ain't no messin' now mess with the blues Messin' the blues, messin' the blues Messin' the blues, messin' the blues Well lonely days and lonely nights Tell your honey that it just ain't right Well baby baby don't let me be blue 'Cause there ain't no messin' like messin' the blues Messin' the blues Fine little belly got a gleam in my eye (Additional lines or repeats in some transcriptions fade into guitar solos and the chorus riff.) The song builds around a heavy, groovy riff with Trower's signature soaring guitar work, and it repeats the "messin' the blues" hook extensively. ### Themes The core theme revolves around **struggling with the blues** — both the emotional/musical genre and the feeling of deep melancholy, hardship, and despair. Key elements include: - **Prolonged hardship and exhaustion** — Lines like "been down so long that I can't get up" and "drink my life from an empty cup" evoke futility, emptiness, and being worn out by life's struggles (a staple in blues tradition). - **Defiance and refusal to be pushed around** — The narrator pushes back against anyone trying to "mess" with him further ("I ain't taking no messin' from the likes of you"), turning vulnerability into tough resolve. - **The inescapability of the blues** — It warns or declares that messing with someone's blues (interfering in their pain or low state) is dangerous or futile — "there ain't no messin' like messin' the blues." It's almost personifying the blues as a force not to be trifled with. - **Loneliness and pleading for relief** — References to "lonely days and lonely nights" and begging a lover ("tell your honey" / "don't let me be blue") add a personal, relational layer of heartache. - **Classic blues rock vibe** — The song draws from traditional blues tropes (down-and-out narrator, empty existence, romantic plea) but amps it up with Trower's psychedelic/hard rock edge — heavy riffs, expressive guitar solos, and a groove that feels both gritty and soaring. Overall, it's a straightforward yet powerful blues lament: life's beaten the singer down, but he's not going quietly, and the blues are both the problem and the defiant outlet. Fans often praise it for Trower's emotive guitar "talking" through the pain, evoking influences like Hendrix and classic blues (some even note nods to Howlin' Wolf in live energy). It's a standout groove-heavy cut from that mid-70s era of his career.

$35 Motorola CMD1250. I was able to program it for both narrow and wide FM. With two of these, a duplexer, and a controller, I could make a repeater. This model stores 64 channels (4 banks of 16). UHF 450–527 MHz, 1–35 watts. It scans and has many more features.

For months, Speaker Johnson refused to hang the Jan. 6th plaque honoring law enforcement. Then he placed it in a basement corner of the Capitol where it will rarely be seen. The brave officers, many from Northern Virginia, who defended the Capitol against the insurrection deserve better. This plaque belongs where everyone can see it.

🧵2/2😂 **Lyrics to "Lemon Pound Cake" by Afroman** The song samples the melody and vibe of **The Drifters' "Under the Boardwalk"** (1964), turning it into a humorous, laid-back diss track. Here's the full lyrics compiled from reliable sources like Shazam, LyricsTranslate, and various transcriptions (slight variations exist across sites, but this is the core/consensus version): The Adams County Sheriff kicked down my door Then I heard the glass break They found no kidnapping victims Just some lemon pound cake Mama's lemon pound cake It tastes so nice It made the sheriff wanna put down his gun And cut him a slice (of what? Of what?) Lemon pound cake He wanna put down his Glock Lemon pound cake Trending on TikTok Lemon pound cake He's a family guy Lemon pound cake Got the munchies because he got high (Additional verses/chorus repeats often include lines like:) Mama's living pound cake, it tastes so nice It made the sheriff wanna put down his gun And cut him a slice of that lemon pound cake He wanna put down his glass... lemon pound cake **Meaning and Analysis** "Lemon Pound Cake" is a satirical, revenge-style rap song released by Afroman (Joseph Edgar Foreman) on September 30, 2022, and later featured as the title track on his January 2023 album of the same name. It's directly inspired by a real-life incident: On August 21, 2022, deputies from the Adams County Sheriff's Office in Ohio raided Afroman's home based on a warrant alleging probable cause for drug possession, drug trafficking, and even kidnapping. - **No drugs or trafficking evidence** was found. - **No kidnapping victims** were present (the claim was baseless). - But officers **did** discover (and apparently fixate on) a homemade **lemon pound cake** (made by Afroman's mom) sitting under a glass dome/bell jar in the kitchen. Surveillance footage from Afroman's home cameras captured one deputy (with gun drawn) pausing to stare longingly at the cake before continuing the search. The raid caused property damage (broken glass, kicked-in door), and Afroman claimed officers disconnected cameras and took money (later partially returned as a "miscount"). No charges were filed against him. Afroman turned this humiliating experience into art as a form of non-violent payback. He explained in interviews (e.g., NPR in 2023) that as a "powerless Black man in America," his response was to make funny rap songs about the cops, sell merch (like "Officer Pound Cake" shirts), and use the proceeds to cover damages. **Key themes and humor breakdown:** - **Mocking police overreach** — The raid was aggressive and unwarranted, yet yielded nothing criminal except a snack. The absurdity is highlighted: armed officers hunting "kidnappers" but distracted by baked goods. - **The cake as temptation** — The deputy’s glance is exaggerated into full-blown desire ("put down his gun/Glock and cut him a slice"). It pokes fun at human weakness (munchies, possibly implying the cop was "high" on power or literally craving sugar), tying back to Afroman's classic "Because I Got High" with the line "Got the munchies because he got high." - **Pop culture jabs** — Calling the officer a "family guy" references Peter Griffin from *Family Guy* (known for being overweight and food-obsessed). - **Viral/trending nod** — "Trending on TikTok" nods to how the footage and song blew up online. - **Overall tone** — Lighthearted, comedic revenge. Afroman uses humor to reclaim power, turning trauma into profit and public embarrassment for the officers (some later sued him over the videos/footage, claiming defamation and distress, but the song stands as protected speech/satire). It's classic Afroman: weed-infused, irreverent storytelling with a catchy old-school sample.

🧵2/2 **"Radioactive"** by **The Firm** (from their 1985 self-titled debut album) is a straightforward hard rock track with a seductive, energetic vibe. Written by vocalist **Paul Rodgers**, the lyrics portray someone who's irresistibly charged up—full of passion, confidence, and sexual energy—using "radioactive" as a metaphor for being intensely attractive, turned on, and unstoppable in a romantic/sexual encounter. ### Full Lyrics (Compiled from reliable sources like Genius and AZLyrics; slight variations exist in some transcriptions, but this is the standard version) Well, I'm not uptight Not unattractive Turn me on tonight 'Cause I'm radioactive Radioactive There's not a fight And I'm not your captive Turn me loose tonight 'Cause I'm radioactive Radioactive I want to stay with you I want to play with you, baby I want to lay with you And I want you to know Got to concentrate, don't be distractive Turn me on tonight 'Cause I'm radioactive, oh yeah (Instrumental break / guitar solo) Radioactive Radioactive Radioactive Radioactive The song repeats elements of the chorus and fades out with "radioactive" chants, emphasizing the hook. ### Meaning / Interpretation The core theme is **sexual magnetism and liberation**. The narrator asserts their appeal ("not uptight, not unattractive") and demands freedom in the moment ("turn me loose tonight"). "Radioactive" symbolizes being electrified, glowing with desire—like something dangerously hot and uncontainable. It's about mutual attraction without drama or restraint: no fights, no captivity, just intense, playful intimacy ("play with you," "lay with you"). It's classic 1980s rock swagger—fun, direct, and unapologetically horny—fitting the era's AOR/hard rock style. Some fans see it as a lighthearted boast of confidence, while others note the metaphor ties into nuclear-era imagery (hot, explosive energy). There's no deep political or hidden layer; it's primarily a sexy, feel-good rocker meant to get crowds moving. The track was a big hit, topping Billboard's Mainstream Rock chart, thanks to its catchy bass line (Tony Franklin's fretless bass), Jimmy Page's guitar work, and Rodgers' powerful delivery.
