We should all be outraged by the recent attack on the synagogue in West Bloomfield, Michigan. This is part of a growing tide of antisemitism in our country. As Americans, we must stand together and fight antisemitism, Islamophobia and all forms of racism and bigotry.

My city and my community were attacked last night 700 metres from my childhood home. First I got sporadic messages from friends in danger. Then updates started rolling in. Then I heard sirens that didn’t stop. When I saw a video of the gunmen on the footbridge it truly sunk in. That same non-descript footbridge I’ve walked 1000 times now seemingly the centre of the world and the launchpad for evil. Since I saw that video, I’ve also seen and read so many things that have taken my breath away. Blood donation sites crashing from too much activity as the local community rallies to help. Multiples victims who died while protecting loved ones. Ahmed Al Ahmed who ran from the relative safety of the beach front into the line of fire, unarmed, to tackle a gunman in a clip I assumed had to be AI. Heroism like that surely couldn’t be real. So many messages of concern from around the world, thank you all. This may be a strange takeaway when there is undoubtedly a lot of evil in the world and it’s never felt closer to home, but wow is there a lot of good.
