@vicgoddard Why? This is the Treasury telling DfE that they can’t have more money. It’s up to the DfE to then use the money they have to best effect - they could choose to fully fund any teacher/staff pay rise.

@theeclumsycow @owenjonesjourno What’s it got to do with Keir Starmer? The age verification law was passed in 2023, but had a grace period before it kicked in so that companies could get things in place.

@HalilMrT4Real This is the govt telling the STRB that the DfE won’t get more money if STRB recommends bigger pay rises than govt/DfE budgeted for The STRB might not recommend bigger than already budgeted. And even if they do, DfE could move money around to ensure schools get it fully funded

@Strickomaster This is just that DfE won’t get more money if STRB recommends bigger pay rise than Treasury/DfE have budgeted for. 1) STRB recomm might be in line with, or lower, than govt budgeted 2) Even if higher, DfE could/would tighten its belt so schools don’t have to find the extra money

@smithsmm @teachwellall @Headteacherchat Go and ask your GP surgery if they spend any of their money on a staff Christmas do. Because education seems to be the only sector that thinks it’s immoral to spend money on retaining/supporting/caring/providing enjoyment for staff.

Anon post: We’ve just sent out the email for the staff Christmas party, but four of our fantastic TAs have already declined because they can’t afford the £39 cost per person. I really don’t want finances to be a barrier to them joining. Has anyone found good, low-cost or inclusive alternatives to ensure everyone can celebrate together?

@ACT2CAM @Strickomaster Or, adults should take responsibility and get their kids in school. Stop excusing poor attendance (when there’s no medical need) and get kids in school.

Myth about restorative practices is that there are no consequences. Truth is every restorative interaction should result in some action plan to address the harm. Those action plans are consequences that address harm, solve problems, and work to heal those harmed.

Parents of most difficult pupils often don’t support school, often attempt to undermine the school, often claim an SEND unmet need root of child’s behaviour & that school must adapt. Serious consideration needed as to how SEND labelling potentially abused.

@HeyMissSmith @Strickomaster If a parent is lying to keep their child away from a legal requirement to send their child to school then this is de facto a safeguarding concern. If the school suspects a parent is lying about a holiday then they are automatically suspecting a safeguarding concern & have to act

@onechriswhite @1stclassmaths The government states a pass is Grade 4. It’s the demoralisation students face being told they’ve failed, just before entering the next stage in their life, that I have the issue with. I wonder if schools would adopt functional skills if it contributed to progress.

33 of our students achieved below Grade 4 in summer 2023 out of a cohort of 207. We know they are going to struggle with Maths GCSE from early on. I am desperate to know what other schools do with their bottom set? Has anyone trialled an alternative qualification?? Please RT

@DrRLofthouse What do you think does attract them to teach internationally? Low tax and brilliant behaviour is what I hear on the ground. But I’ve only ever seen you snipe against ‘warm strict’ and other initiatives to improve student behaviour.

Maybe the DfE needs to learn what attracts U.K. teachers to teach internationally. What is the lure? Why do they travel so far (with or away from family)? How might we retain more here? It cannot just be sunshine & tapas. It must also be policy climate and school cultures.

@CiaranPorter5 @TTRadioOfficial Truly pleased for you, but it's unfair to suggest other teachers are getting it wrong. For many it's a lived reality not of their own making. Therein lies the issue.

Sean, a teacher and one of our hosts described his typical day: “get up 5am Out of shower 5.30 Get breakfast and talk to partner about the day ahead (also a teacher) Leave for work at 6.45 Arrive 7.10 Photocopying, all retrieval tasks prepared, hole punched, place in rooms where I am on the different sites, lessons in correct folders Then briefings on Mondays/Thursdays Then teaching 20 min break and 30 min lunch - if I don’t have a free, I am left with about an hour to do other stuff I need to do Adding behaviour points on SIMs, interventions after school, twilights. Time disappears into the ether - you still have loads to do when you get home! I leave school 4.30-5pm 25 mins drive - only time I don’t think about school 5pm onwards - life stuff! I have 4 kids, cleaning, dinner etc 6.30pm dinner 7.15pm into office and work to around 10pm unless mock exams etc and then sometimes later to 11pm” Sean describes his typical working day! The attempt to portray peaceful protests against elected politicians as some form of hate crime is deeply sinister and an attack on democracy Supporters of an onslaught slaughtering thousands of innocent civilians are playing a desperate game of deflection. See it for what it is
Luke Akehurst@lukeakehurst

This isn't lobbying or campaigning, it's intimidation and bullying, and targeting an opposition MP suggests the motive is some previous political beef rather than actually changing government policy. I suspect it will have the opposite impact to that intended.

Under Health & Safety at Work Act 1974, employers have legal obligation to ensure (so far as is reasonably practicable) the health of employees in workplace. This includes taking necessary steps to ensure employees do not suffer from stress-related illness because of their work🤔
