@RAbdiAnalyst That's not brutalist aesthetics. Just lack of urban planning.

Nairobi is becoming a triumph of brutalist aesthetics. One of Africa's most elegant and greenest cities has been turned into a war-zone of vertical concrete slums. More depressing is the dominant attitude this frenzied 'slumification' is development. Worst part: most are empty.

@sholard_mancity Whereas it's true that parents are facing a hard time, please note that most students choose National and county schools. Some schools have had to increase their streams from 6 to almost 15 for the grade 10. This has left subcouty schools with no kids.

I’ve just watched some disturbing reports on KTN, and I’m genuinely worried. Government officials are now openly lying & contradicting each other. CS Murkomen says 70% of Grade 10 students have reported. CS Migos says the figure is 85%. But when you look at what’s happening on the ground, even on national TV, the reality is very different. Many schools have no students at all. Some have fewer than 10. So let’s be clear about the real issue. These schools don’t have low numbers because they are failing. They have low numbers because students haven’t reported, and many parents simply cannot afford it. Instead of confronting that reality, the Ministry is now talking about merging day schools with "a few students." Think about what that means. You don’t solve poverty by merging schools. You don’t fix access to education by closing the few options poor families have. In practice, this locks poor children out of school, quietly, politely, and with nice-sounding statistics. This is what worries me most: government now seems focused on image, percentages, and headlines, not children. And when the image becomes more important than people, it is the poorest students who are thrown under the bus. On education, this approach is wrong. It is dishonest. And as a country, we must reject it completely.

Changes in waste management and shift to other sustainable alternatives has negatively impacted the livelihood of informal waste pickers. By equipping them with relevant skills, we are promoting a #justtransition that recognizes their contribution and fundamental human dignity.

Mukuru demolitions on high-res imagery. Weak activism will have you sympathize with the demolitions of illegal settlements on riparian reserves. However, Remote Sensing empirically quantifies the need to clear these spaces for efficient hydrological processes and tree growth.

We now know where they stand now. They will go out on the streets and on their platforms to mobilise for climate matters but not #RejectFinanceBill2024.

As a Climate activist I feel that the silence from very prominent so called international climate activists on the #RejectFinanceBill2024 speaks volumes on the side they are on. I want them to know that we see their fear, cowardice, complacency & betrayal. Unearth the quacks!

While advocacy is beneficial, it is critical to implement and showcase realistic local solutions. I find that advocacy in Africa often regurgitates Western narratives, especially on matters such as climate change, fossil fuels, renewable energy and agriculture.
