Today I opened the John Prescott Room at Ruskin College.
He got a second chance here. No O levels, but Ruskin helped him get to Hull, then to Parliament, and eventually Deputy PM.
We all deserve a second chance.

Tomorrow I have the honour of opening the John Prescott Room at Ruskin College, 60 years after he finished the course that helped take him from the docks to Downing Street. I’ll return his original Ruskin essays to inspire future students. Thank you Ruskin for believing in him.

He’d have been 87 today. First birthday without him. Found this picture the other day in the loft. We’d just moved in to the house in East Hull in 1978. Fitting that he spent his whole life trying to lift people up too. Happy birthday dad. ❤️
