I made less than $1,300 a day last year for the days I worked. Washington is a very expensive city and I’ve had to switch to a lot of domestic products as a result.

@Ryan_Daigler Advice for the soon to be step-dad of a 14 year old boy whose father is covert. He started therapy four months ago. The process is painfully slow. It's hard to just sit back and watch this evil. It's as bad or worse than physical abuse, but there's nothing I can do.

You should’ve had a family who stuck up for you. You should’ve had some support when you were being abused. Instead, the very people who are supposed to be there for you to protect you and support you were the ones abusing you and trying to gaslight you into believing you deserved it. You were not the problem. You had some very dysfunctional family members.

@Ryan_Daigler Did you have to come to this conclusion on your own through your own experience? Did someone help you? Do you wish someone would have protected you, explained it to you, even if it were painful for you?

I used to feel that way for my “dad” (abuser) when I was a teenager. Even while was abusing me, I wanted to try to understand him and I thought that he just needed someone to reach through to him. But then he would take those acts of compassion as if I was being foolish and stupid and he would attack me harder with a smirk on his face. The more compassion I showed him, the weaker he thought I was and the more deserving of suffering, death and erasure he thought I deserved. Trying to have compassion for someone like this or Charles Manson etc. will exhaust you to death. It will destroy you eventually. It’s like trying to fill a black hole. At some point you must realize the only thing you need to focus on is your safety from these monsters. There is no other rational use of your brain activity with people like this. Compassion with people like this will only get you hurt. It truly does make you more vulnerable Able. I don’t believe compassion is a weakness or a vulnerability in itself, but feeling it for the wrong people absolutely is a dangerous vulnerability. Sometimes I think this is what my “dad“ was trying to teach me in some sick way by showing me that no matter how much compassion I showed him he would only use it to hurt me more without any hesitation or remorse. But now I think that’s just how he is.
