@LordTBR_FFA Man, I am so sick of AI. I feel like every company and product at the moment just screams AI at you over and over again, and I feel like screaming FUCK OFF! Right back. And the best bit. FB ads have a habit of turning on their AI features even when you turn it off.

We are now at a point where authors are using AI to promote their books - even if they wrote using 0 AI assistance and paid for a real cover artist. Sorry to break it to you, but I’m still not reading your book.

@LordTBR_FFA I don't know the nice way to let fellow small authors know that their AI slop promotional video it will alienate or enrage a good many potential readers, myself included. So I just say nothing.

I didn't realize how many horror authors despise the fantasy genre. This makes me sad, because I love horror in fantasy. Wish we had more crossover. Just me?

@YuvalKordov As an anti-respirator you lost me at the word breathe. It's just not something I do or understand at all so unfortunately I couldn't relate with this post.

So. That indie competition.👀 It’s an odd thing being the subject of controversy. I don’t typically court drama or engage with it. Life is short, and should be relished. But, as the dialogue has become more… vigorous… I figured I should write something. First of all, as far as I know, I’m still in the competition. There may yet be a return of the jedi. Secondly, I’d like to thank those teams/reviewers who engaged with my book in a fair manner. Some of the early reviews were quite lovely. Not because they were positive, but because they really gave it a chance/got it. Sisters of Mercy is by no means a conventional or easy read. And yes, *gasp*, it’s religious. Thirdly, I’d like to thank those here who have supported me amidst all the brouhaha: my dear friends in their boundless protectiveness, and the new readers I’ve yet to meet. Fourthly… I think enough has been said on the triggering reviews. To be honest, I expected more like that and was surprised to make it as far as I did. I know there’s been discussion among the teams on what constitutes a “fair” review and I applaud those efforts. Fifthly (this is getting long). Where does this leave us? I hold out a little hope that there is still a place where folks can meet in the middle. Read and enjoy books without having to segregate and atomize until there’s nothing left. As Esther said in The Hand of God: “She wondered how people had come to loathe each other so much, that they chose to create these artificial facsimiles of themselves for companionship. And when their automatons still didn’t provide the succor they craved, they chose to destroy it all.” In that case, it was about machines, but same difference. I think that’s probably more than enough. God bless, and don’t forget to breathe.
