There’s so much focus on the new sanctions bill, and too little focus on enforcing the sanctions already on the books. The Trump administration could drastically reduce revenues flowing to Putin just through greater enforcement of existing sanctions.

Spain editing Trump out of the World Cup photos is funny… but what’s not funny, is that he’s preparing for war with Cuba.
The signs are becoming harder to ignore.
• Trump has publicly talked about “taking Cuba.”
• The Pentagon has reportedly expanded contingency planning.
• The administration declared Cuba a national security threat.
• Officials are alleging Iranian drones and possible missiles in Cuba.
• Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has issued direct military warnings from Guantánamo Bay.
• Congress has already tried, unsuccessfully, to limit unilateral military action against Cuba.
Don’t get distracted.

BROWDER: If we'd been tougher on Putin after he went in and took Crimea, if we'd imposed devastating sanctions, he might not have done full-scale invasion.
He thought he could get away with it. He thought we were all so weak and cowardly that he could roll in there.
He thought Ukrainians wouldn't put up a fight, we wouldn't help Ukrainians, and that would be the end of the story.
Sanctions serve two purposes. They can either serve as a deterrent, or they can be used as a punishment.
The problem is that we didn't use them as a deterrent, and so now we have to use them as a punishment.
But when you punish people, you've got to punish them a hundred times harder than you have to deter them. And so, it's kind of too late.
Too late in the sense that there are hundreds of thousands of dead Ukrainians who didn't have to be dead if we had been more robust, if we hadn't been concierges to Russian oligarchs.

Russia unleashed the largest number of ballistic missiles since the start of the war — around four dozen — in a brutal terrorist attack on the Ukrainian capital, killing and injuring people. We urge appropriate and strong responses. We need devastating pressure on Moscow to end this terror. There can be no pauses in increasing sanctions and isolation of Russia. The 21st EU package must be unblocked now. There can be no pauses in the protection of life. Agreements on additional interceptors must be implemented without delay. Everyone who is holding back these vital protection tools from delivery should know that the cost of delay is measured in human lives. There can be no pauses in our joint work to develop European protection from ballistic terror. We rely on anti-ballistic coalition to advance its work quickly. There can be no decisions to whitewash Russia’s war crimes by restoring its rights in international sports competitions. The blood of Ukrainians is on the hands of the sports bureaucrats taking such immoral steps. Putin will not be stopped through appeasement. He will go further unless he is stopped by strength now. A South Korean company challenging Commerce Department trade penalties paid Donald Trump’s holding company $2,000,000 last year.
The payment came from Base Group, the lead investor in Korea Aluminium, which faced penalties after the Commerce Department found that South Korean companies were circumventing trade duties on Chinese-made aluminum. The money surfaced in Trump’s annual financial disclosure released in late June.
The disclosure described it only as a nonrefundable development fee tied to a letter of intent. The Trump Organization says it relates to an unannounced golf course project.
Base Group has courted the Trump family for nearly a decade. It sells Trump-branded wine in South Korea and hosted Eric Trump at its Seoul headquarters in February, where executives discussed expanding trade between the two countries.
As recently as last month, the Commerce Department was weighing whether to raise tariffs further on Korea Aluminium. A preliminary review released last week sided with American aluminum companies. The agency that decides this company’s fate answers to the president. The president took $2,000,000 dollars from its largest investor.
This is one payment. Trump’s holding company collected at least $125,000,000 from foreign sources last year, from more than a dozen countries.
Every president in modern history stepped away from their business to avoid even the appearance of a conflict. This president kept nearly 30 ventures with foreign partners and now profits from companies whose fortunes his own government controls.
This cannot be normalized.
Either we will end the corruption, or the corruption will be the end of us.
