@ByPatForde Impossible to do those types of lists, as much fun as they are to compile/read. Biggest gripe would be Ernie Davis not being included.

Appreciate all the feedback on this list. Other than the guy championing Marcus Dupree*, good thoughts all around. * Could’ve been joking.

As an @SINow staff, we undertook the most ridiculous task possible: ranking the top 50 college football players in the history of a 130-plus-year-old sport. It's impossible. We took a shot. Feel free to be outraged: si.com/college-footba…

@LTorbin It actually happened. Dayton played in the First Four against Boise State. But now that doesn’t have to happen.

@DavidWorlock I never thought about it until just now, but what would have happened over the past decade or so had Dayton been bracketed into an opening round game? At least now you can send them to Wichita but was there a contingency plan to waive this rule? Adjust the bracket to avoid it?

Point of clarity from today's release: "The Men’s Basketball Committee also voted to remove the provision that prohibited a school from playing at a site at which it is serving as the tournament host." If a team plays more than 3 games in a venue, it still can't play there.

But the University of Houston, for example, can serve as the host institution at the home of the Rockets (assuming UH doesn't play more than three regular-season games there.)

Wichita is a great college basketball town. In addition, its central location is a key factor in tipping off March Madness in that, like Dayton, countless teams and fanbases will be within 400 miles of all Opening Round games. - Dan Gavitt, NCAA senior vice president of basketball

Since expansion in 2011, there have been 60 teams across 15 tournaments revealed as First 4 Out. 25 of them were not A4 teams. They came from 13 leagues: American (4), MWC (4), Big East (3), A10 (3), MVC (2), Horizon (2), and 1 each from WCC, SoCon, Ivy, CAA, MAAC, Summit, CUSA.

@MCanfieldCFB Don’t know what’s dishonest about a current trend but Go Bills, Go Sabres.

@DavidWorlock You are whistling past the graveyard if you think this dishonest “trend” will hold. We all see what’s happened over the past 2 years and we can all see how this great sport has been destroyed by NIL, transfer on demand and total lack of leadership.

From 1985 to 2010 (26 tournaments), 12 seeds went 2-2 or better against the 5 seeds in the first round 10 times. Since 2011 (15 tournaments), that has happened 8 times. 11 seeds went 2-2 or better against 6 seeds 9 times from 1985-2010, while doing it 11 times since 2011.
Dan Wetzel@DanWetzel

So many first round upsets out of 11 and 12 seeds since 1985 (.372 and .354 win percentage respectively). It's what makes March Madness great. Now, rather than have a few days to practice, prepare and game plan, they get extra travel and an extra game. The 5 and 6 seeds get to rest and wait.

@Mattatthebank Good questions. The percentage is 33.3 (4 of 12). And only 1 school (SMU) has moved into an A4 conference in that time.

@JordanHarrison Good, fair question. It was the league at the time. Of the 25 schools that were not in the A4 at the time, only SMU (twice) has moved to an A4 league.

@BradJamesRadio @westwood1sports Great question. I don't know if I see those numbers. I know WWO provides great coverage from First Four to Final Four across the country and streaming online, plus provides a Spanish broadcast at the Final Four. Kevin Kugler, Robbie Hummel, PJ Carlesimo make up for a great trio.

The numbers speak for themselves. Thank you to everyone who watched and attended the games and/or ancillary events, those who volunteered, and to the media who covered the event. And a special shout out to my colleagues who know how to stage a first-class event.
