Stacks Nakamoto testnet (codename Neon) is on track for end-Dec. The Foundation posted a good summary of expected timelines based on the open-source dev work. Here are my takeaways: - There are several Working Groups (WGs) like Nakamoto, sBTC, WASM, Testing, etc. However, the two main ones to watch would be Nakamoto WG and sBTC WG. - There is a lot of focus on the Nakamoto workstream right now as that upgrades consensus to give (a) faster blocks, (b) 100% Bitcoin finality, and (c) integrates stackers as signers. - Milestone 0.2 (codename Neon) deploys a controlled testnet, and after that, Milestone 0.3 (codename Argon) is integration work, broadly. - The full system is scheduled to launch with two hardforks. First one right before the Bitcoin halving to push Nakamoto live. And the 2nd is scheduled for after the halving to push sBTC live. - The decision to have two hardforks is primarily driven by safety; it limits the surface area of each critical upgrade.
