We have won 3 playoff games in the last 5 seasons. We have also missed the playoffs in back to back seasons. This team is the 6th oldest in the NHL. This #isles team is not a competitor. It’s time to retool. Anything but a retool will negatively impact the team’s real window.

@MikeBartner Palat and Soucy were net zero cost to replace sub-NHL players at the bottom of the lineup. Criticizing them is silly. Schenn has been a capable line 2 C who has helped Ritchie’s development. That has value. Isles gave up market value to get him.

I think my main problem is Darche's strength is his drafting and his biggest weakness is pro scouting (at least early on). In the 2025 Draft (not counting Schaefer of course) Eklund, Aitcheson, Prokohorov, Poletin and Kvasnicka are all trending well while he has thrown airballs on a lot of NHL player adds and re-signings. Schenn's been productive offensively sure, but a defensive disaster, not cheap at $6.5M and in his mid 30's while the Islanders are not contenders.

@Brandon266946 @MikeBartner He might be overrated now bc people are ascribing him star status. But he looks like a potential top 4 D with special teams ability and a physical edge. That is still valuable. And tbh, he does have a star ceiling.

@philzfactz He landed the top coach on the market to replace the subpar one he inherited. He also brought in a goalie coach that turned our star goalies season around. He also has all of our top prospects in good developmental situations. So yes, he’s showing positive signs as a GM

Look, has Darche made good signings? - No Has he made good trades? - Also no Has he shown that he's capable of being a good GM at the NHL level in any way? - Once again negative But at the end of the day we're all #isles fans and we're all rooting for them to be successful, so lets finish the season strong and steal a playoff spot.

@BobbySkinner_ He wasn’t a really good player last year. He was invisible last year. He can absolutely rebound but it isn’t certain, and now he’s showing he’s a malcontent on top of it. I’d trade him for a separate package.

@philzfactz Bullshit. This is almost entirely a roster he inherited, other than 2 bottom of the lineup acquisitions to replace AHL players and one new 2C who has been solid. If you’re a fan at all you’re a really shitty one.

By the time the #isles play their next game they will likely be the 12th seed in the Easter conference I cannot remember in my lifetime a more epic late season collapse by them than this one and it all falls squarely on the shoulders of the general manager.

@klusb14 Ridiculous. Roy was not a good coach. Deboar is, and he has a long track record of success. It’s amazing how anyone could try to spin this as anything other than a strong move by Darche.

Sorry guys, the GM playing his “get out of jail free card” with four games left in a season isn’t some stroke of genius. It’s pretty clear evidence that ownership is unhappy and Darche knows that this season matters more than he thought it would as a result of a disastrous deadline. We’re not the Yankees. This is a small fanbase and you’re delusional if you don’t think ownership knows exactly how the deadline / Darche have been received. Roy had to go, but this is desperation disguised as 4D chess.

@charlieo_conn Bad take. This team was playing far below their talent level at the most critical point of the season. They hired a coach that was sure to be in demand in the offseason. This is a very strong move by Darche.

The Islanders aren't a good enough team on paper for the front office to get so mad at the coach to fire him with four games left in the season. You're a bad hockey team getting carried by a goalie and an 18-year old rookie. Chill out guys.

Roy deserved to be fired and this is a clear upgrade, but this scares me that Darche still heavily believes in this group right now.

I know the #Isles have lost four straight, but they’re still in playoff position and have seemingly arrived ahead of schedule this season. Maybe someone who follows them closer could tell me what I’m missing, but it’s very surprising they wouldn’t at least let Roy finish what he started this season, then assess the full body of work/consider a change in the offseason. And to do it on Easter Sunday, that’s pretty rough…

#isles I'll enjoy watching the younger players and some of the veterans but I think my postseason hopes are officially dusted. Maybe they surprise me. Just feels like this closes the door on a lot of players, Roy, and sets the expectation for a new direction.
