I see this happening too often, so here is a piece of advice for event organizers:
If you are inviting a speaker less than two weeks before your event, whether it’s a TEDx or a student summit... You are sending a clear message: that speaker was an afterthought and your planning is disorganized. Professionals with high value insights usually have their calendars booked weeks in advance; a last-minute invite is often an automatic "no."
If a speaker has already committed, ensure your protocol team stays in constant communication. Your lack of planning does not constitute an emergency for a stranger. Expecting someone to "make it work" at the eleventh hour is unreasonable. Let’s lead with excellence and show respect for people’s time.
