@MiriamETucker In the past 4 years I've ended up getting rid of my 10 ml lantus vial when it expires without even opening it. I wish there was something else I could do with it. There is a 5 ml vial available over here, which would make more sense, but it's not on the local NHS forumulary.

@Davis16Samuel Yeah. I can’t get vials of Lantus, only boxes of 5 pens which I never use and then refill when they expire. Wasteful and hardly ideal.

By the way, this is why I still carry a vial of insulin and syringes in my purse despite using technology for years. Many young people with #T1D don’t, and it’s concerning.
Miriam E. Tucker@MiriamETucker

At a music club. My automated insulin delivery system completely failed just as the band began playing, so I had to inject for the first time in ~4 years. Kind of ironic as I’m in the middle of covering #ATTD2026 (#Diabetes technology conference) 💉🫠

@MiriamETucker Exactly why I will never relinquish control unless I am unable to safely due to being unconscious or physically/mentally unable - the standard of care now in the UK. UK Hospitals also have inpatient specific DSNs to advise ward staff on management, which makes a huge difference.

@Lin62866960 I've not had a chance to watch your video, but I've just had a look through the latest manual for the 780G and for the Instinct sensor and I can't find anywhere where it says that it can't be used for treatment decisions for the first 12 hrs? 🤔This was the closest I could find.

Did you know that the Abbott Instinct sensor can't be used for treatment decisions for the first 12 hours? yep, it's true, I read the manual. Medtronic MiniMed keeps trying to get me to switch, but I'm sticking with the Guardian 4.

@DocEmUK @HealthwatchE 3/3 We were short staffed enough without having to deal with that. We could potentially turn specimens around by the next day (or even same day for TX biopsies), but it would have been completely unfeasible to do that for the amount of specimens with urgent written on them.

@DocEmUK @HealthwatchE 2/n but we would still get sometimes hundreds a week with urgent written on the request card. These would be treated normally, usually causing an irate phone call about "where is my result?" When asked if they had pre-discussed it with us, the answer was always no, they assumed.

@philippzross I eventually got a WGS done by sequencing.com for a very similar price. Nanopore long-read sequencing is great for difficult bits of the genome, but for general WGS short-read really out-performs it in accuracy. However, a long-read WGS would improve my existing WGS.

@notshawnow Real shame to hear. My mum and I went to Liverpool for the first time in December and we really enjoyed having a round trip cruise on the Royal Iris of the Mersey. It was absolutely hammering down with rain all day, so it was a much welcome way to see things while keeping dry.

@philippzross @draparente You were very lucky then! I waited 7 months with my sample not even entering the QC stage and they kept ignoring my emails or making and breaking promises it would be finished within X time. In the end my credit card company refunded me for it after Dante continued to ignore me.

@draparente I eventually went with sequencing.com and paid a similar price. I checked the raw files and the sequencing was good quality (~33x coverage on average) on the whole. The AI reports definitely over interprete studies though and need to be taken with a big pinch of salt.

@draparente DO NOT USE DANTE. Sorry to shout, but I tried them 2 years ago and after nearly 7 months had no results and they either ignored my emails or made promises that they then promptly broke. Thankfully consumer law is strong in the UK/EU so I was able to get it refunded by Mastercard.

What's the best consumer WGS provider? Have read lots of complaints about Dante Labs.

@skiwithmeok @TheMonologist Longer focal lengths compress the scenes perspective, making it look like he's coming out of the mirage. As 65 mm motion film is such a large negative, for the effect to work the focal length needs to be very long. 482 mm isn't long on 35 mm film, but very big/unusual for 65 mm.

LAWRENCE OF ARABIA (1962) In order to film Omar Sharif's iconic entrance through a mirage, Panavision created a 482mm lens specifically for this one shot. It's never been used since.

@ScottBrosDuo I'm really hoping that you'll have a concert with the Caird Hall organ in Dundee at some point. I was really looking forward to when you were going to last be performing there, but it unfortunately had to be cancelled due the weather derailing your travel. Here's hoping! 😊

@capitalist_qol @alexpotato @wonderofscience Ironically, what Werner Forssmann fed into an incision he made in his branchial artery and up into his heart was actually a urinary catheter. In 1929 that was the most suitable thing that was available. His invention of cardiac catheterisation has likely saved millions of lives.

This device, known as the Pigg-O-Stat, safely immobilizes infants and young children during x-rays for accurate positioning. Created in 1960, it's still widely used today.

@JustinMoretti2 @TimothyImholt There are 3 other possibilities for previous mponwalkers in addition to Buzz Aldrin. Dave Scott (Apollo 15), Charlie Duke (Apollo 16) and Harrison Schmitt (Apollo 17), who after his commander Gene Cernan's death in 2017 became the last living person to walk on the moon.

@TimothyImholt Yep. They're redoing Apollo 8. And that's fine - you need to be sure your ship can get there and back again. But EVERYONE will be glued to that landing. Is Buzz Aldrin still alive? Let's do a John Glenn and send him back!! Make him the first man to walk on the moon twice.

@FeralHeather It works so well because even though it is set in the Star Wars universe, you don't need to be a Star Wars fan or even really have watched any of the previous films/TV series to understand its themes and story. Probably one of the few series I really looked forward to each week.

The supermajority of men on my dating roster implored me to watch Andor. I don’t normally watch TV, but last night I felt unwell due to burnout & lack of sleep, so I curled up with the dogs & some snacks. Ok nerds, you win…it’s pretty good

@DrCJ_Houldcroft It's interesting that a viable nasal vaccine has't reached widespread use. Every few months another candidate with good animal data showing protection against transmission, immunity etc gets published, but then disappears. Lack of interest from partners to fund human trials?

Interesting paper. Flu A transmits shortly before people become symptomatic in about 10% of cases. Doesn't seem to happen for flu B. Pre-symptomatic transmission in up to 65% of SC2 Omicron cases! nature.com/articles/s4436…
