Commercially available quantum technology could let stock traders coordinate decisions to buy or sell nearly instantaneously using a technique called “quantum telepathy” #Echobox=1723144121-1" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">newscientist.com/article/244317…

@OSalberger @GlenBradley @elonmusk @MarioNawfal I agree! These are real, provable quantum advantages. I think the main problem is that the hardware is still far from being able to realize such an advantage. The applications we proposed may be better on that front.

@DaweiDavidDing @GlenBradley @elonmusk @MarioNawfal Oh neat, I am interested and will probably read that. In general, I think that quantum advantages for distributed systems are not researched enough. Quantum currencies and O(1) Byzantine agreement are two examples where the quantum advantage is larger than for any compute task

How Can We Get Fast Internet on Mars? Right now, using the internet on Mars would mean waiting 20+ minutes just for data to travel one way. That’s like pressing “play” during 14.4 dial-up days and waiting nearly an hour just to load a short video… screeeeech-krrrrrr… beep-boop-beep… I’m having flashbacks to waiting two days on Napster for Enter Sandman… only for Mom to pick up the phone at 98%! Fear not, Elon has a solution: “A long chain of modified future generation Starlink satellites between 1 and 1.5 AU would do it.” Here’s what he means: By placing a series of Starlink satellites in space between Earth and Mars, each spaced out along the 1 to 1.5 AU (Astronomical Units—the distance between Earth and the Sun), we could create a relay system. The satellites would pass data along the chain from Earth to Mars, “hopping” the signal down the line. This could cut down the delay, helping data move faster than if it traveled the entire Earth-Mars distance in one go. Such a “data bridge” would allow for more consistent updates to a cached Mars internet. Mars users could access up-to-date weather forecasts, news, and messages synced to their devices whenever a Starlink satellite passes by, even if it’s not perfectly “live.” In the long term, this setup would be critical for any Mars colony, keeping it connected to Earth with faster and more reliable data transfers. Eventually, we could have a web of satellites around the Sun, like a “solar system internet,” to keep people in space and on other planets connected—maybe one day as fast as on Earth! Source: X

@elonmusk @MarioNawfal @elonmusk Quantum entanglement can’t make communication faster, but can achieve the weaker task of multi-party coordination faster than the speed of light. Check out our paper in which we explore applications of this, such as high frequency trading: arxiv.org/abs/2407.21723

arXiv'pocalypse - averted. 🥴 Apologies to arXiv users seeing a "Rate Exceeded" error this morning due to record high system load on arXiv. We have resolved the issue and arXiv operation status is back to normal.

Been working on "Magic state cultivation: growing T states as cheap as CNOT gates" all year. It's finally out: arxiv.org/abs/2409.17595 The reign of the T gate is coming to an end. It's now nearly the cost of a lattice surgery CNOT gate, and I bet there's more improvements yet.

Houston, we are below the quantum error correction threshold! 🚀 In “Quantum error correction below the surface code threshold” (arxiv.org/abs/2408.13687), we implement a 101-qubit surface code. Each time we increase the distance by two, the logical error rate is cut in half!

We hope that this paper will attract more research into this hitherto unexplored application area of quantum technologies. Other than high frequency trading, we anticipate possible applications in distributed computing and computer architecture. Joint work with Liang Jiang. 4/4

We conduct an in-depth case study of a trading scenario that gives rise to a generalization of the CHSH inequality and show that a physical implementation of a quantum strategy which can attain a provable quantum advantage is possible with current or near-future technologies! 3/4

Very excited to share our newest paper: arxiv.org/abs/2407.21723 We delve into the fascinating observation that Bell inequalities/nonlocal games can actually appear in real-world settings where parties are performing actions so fast that they do not have time to communicate. 1/4
