This👇🏼 … the reality of the messages we are made to believe about ourselves in the psychiatric system. As I said on Wed at an event with ASW - the belief I’m a second grade citizen is so hard to undo after over 30 years as someone deemed ‘mentally ill’. It is exhausting!

Boundary setting plays an important role at work. Boundaries give us a sense of control/agency, clarify our responsibilities, preserve our energy & let us live our values & standards. It's not just about individual boundaries but how we understand & support each other's boundaries as a team. Often "boundaries" means time boundaries or home/life balance, but there are multiple other boundaries we should take account of as well. Challenging poor behaviour, especially when it impacts on others, is an essential part of being “kind” IMHO. It doesn’t mean just agreeing with everyone & letting it ride. Some of the most ruthless, self centred individuals I’ve met go on about kindness & compassion constantly 🤷‍♀️

Micro management is a big red flag- Individuals using positional power over people in oppressive ways General view that staff cant be trusted & must be monitored High levels of systemic threat leading to anxiety & controlling behvrs The scale of this is huge, we must face it.

The whole idea of applying for something that involves 'selling myself' in a competitive process- makes me feel cringe & conflicted. I value quieter, reflective & simple ways of being- listening. These are not flashy/showy qualities, but i really feel it's what we need more of.

@Depheruk @KrisGibson13 My mam took her own life, James. She was 83. She wouldn't talk to me. When l called her she put the phone down. I got a doctor out to see her (I was living 100 miles away) he said she was 'a bit depressed'. She refused medication and counselling. A week later she was dead.
