A lesson on political propaganda and (the unfortunate) effectiveness of it.
A common question in the responses here is “why should the government tell people what to eat or drink?” Valid.
To which a common reply is “Because that’s OUR money and I say where it goes.”
And there you have it. They have successfully programmed a portion of the population to obsess over whether or not a kid gets a cookie when the Secretary of Defense is currently sitting in front of Congress explaining (or trying to) the need for a $1.5 TRILLION military budget.
For the love of humanity, let the kid have the dang cookie and start demanding to see weapons contracts!

The House just voted against banning soda from SNAP. Why should the government fund your soda purchases? If SNAP recipients want to buy sugary drinks, they can do it on their own dime, not on the backs of a taxpayer-funded nutrition program.
