Looking to source organisations that provide respite breaks for veterans and families/people in need. We've only been going 7 months and achieved so much,working with so many,hopefully owning a caravan of our own in time so we can provide breaks ourselves

17th November, 2011 Lieutenant David Boyce aged 25, and Lance Corporal Richard Scanlon, aged 31, both of 1st The Queen's Dragoon Guards, were killed on this day, by an IED blast whilst on vehicle patrol in Nahr-e Saraj, Helmand Province, Afghanistan Lest we Forget 🇬🇧

Lieutenant Commander Allan Cowan MacKellar, of the Royal Navy, and a veteran of both World Wars, died on active service on 16th November, 1942, aged 60 years old We laid flowers and paid respects at his final resting place in Cardonald Cemetery Lest we Forget this brave man 🇬🇧

Day 141 (Part 2): At lunchtime I had the absolute honour of welcoming some of our amazing senior citizens into the parlour to celebrate the Unitied Nations International Day of Older People. Today in Bolton, and across the UK, a range of activities are taking place to raise awareness of opportunities and challenges of an ageing population, and to mobilise the wider community to address difficulties faced by many older people. It is also to celebrate the contributions of older adults to society and raise awareness about the challenges they face, such as ageism and health care needs. This year’s UK theme is ‘The part we play,’ which celebrates the integral role of older people in our communities. Those invited today were just a small selection of the thousands of our senior citizens who actively contribute to Bolton’s diverse and invaluable community of volunteers. From supporting Advice services, helping ensure older people have the money in their pockets they are entitled to, delivering health enhancing physical activity sessions, advocating and campaigning for often marginalised communities, befriending those who are lonely and at risk of social isolation and beyond, we were delighted to celebrate and thank them for the enormous part they play in our town and borough. Tonight we will also be lighting up the Town Hall with purple lights to mark this important day and to show them our thanks. This will highlight Bolton’s support for older people in our communities, and the town is proud to join the UK network of Age-friendly Communities in celebrating our achievements as part of International Day of Older People. #TeamBolton #togetherstronger Mayor of Bolton @ageukbolton
