@iCON_Riot Guys, please, and I really mean it with all my heart, please understand that this Extraction Shooter is not made for mass appeal. The one that broke the mold was exceedingly casual, Marathon is not. It would need massive overhauls to its core identity that I know you don't want.

One thing to note about the D2 news. It isn't Marathon's fault. We all knew Bungie was and will continue to work on other games. If you loved D2 at any point, I highly recommend giving Marathon a try in S2.

@dubbyhendrix @glorpinity Oh yeah, I don't really have anything against it, and it can certainly evolve. I'm just not hoping it's going to evolve in my favor, since that seems to go against what Marathon fans want. If they want more players, it's gotta expand, it's just too niche right now.

@DeamonPhenix @glorpinity I dont think it’ll be limited or if so there will be some rotating modes in general introduced as they sort of did w their experimental queues this season. I wanna see the game expand cause it has a great world & gameplay foundation. Will it be destiny? No, but it can evolve

@dubbyhendrix @glorpinity Yeah, them mentioning PvE additions peaked my interest. However I thought I saw talk of it being a limited time mode. And *lots* of talk from Marathon players about how PvE is bad and shouldn't be in the game/should be worse than the PvP mode etc. So not really holding my breath.

@DeamonPhenix @glorpinity No i totally get what you’re saying. They did drop a nice look to the future from the game director last week that mentioned some more PvE implementation, so i’d expect some expansion in that regard!

@dubbyhendrix @glorpinity I played the server slam. Gameplay was good and I love the visuals. Still don't like extraction shooters and paying $40 to play the game once or twice a month isn't worth it. Permanent PvE mode, sure, but I'm aware it goes against the vision so I'm not asking.

@notmyfullname12 @ScalzoFrankie @KnownAsSys I mean, yeah, it's a quest gun now. Frankie was complaining about the community complaining when it was pure RNG and a gatekeeping factor in 2015. Not about how it is in 2026 in D2, where you only need one person to have it and is also fairly easy to get.

People got super excited because it was so strong, but also it meant you got invited to groups. Admittedly, you could bargain sometimes, like the Crota rocket.

@giancar73012035 The core of the game isn't made for mass appeal then. Which is fine. Like, the gunplay was good during the server slam, but I still don't like Extraction shooters, so why would I buy one? Especially a hardcore extraction shooter. It's a good game, but it's also a niche game.

People are really stupid. Marathon doesn't need a pivot; it has to remain a challenging extrac shotter at its core. Changes can be made to make it more accessible, but you can't change the core because the core of the game is excellent.

The game is good, it doesn't need a pivot it just needs more content: new maps, enemies, and alien races like the Phor. If the game is maintained for a long time, positive word of mouth would attract more people.

@retneysholocron It committed the cardinal sin for me, it was boring. More specifically the casino section. The fact it felt like "unnecessary misunderstandings" the movie didn't help either. Easily my least favorite Star Wars media I've consumed. But visuals + force projection Luke were sick.

IMO, most of the hate towards The Last Jedi comes down to: “I dislike what happened in the story” = “this movie is bad” But you disliking what happened doesn’t mean the movie is bad. You just don’t like what happened in a great movie.

@kishinates I very much did not like B+W, didn't play the sequels because of them (should give those a shot at some point though). The Dex was not why, in fact the Dex being new is why I continued to play it despite not enjoying it. Using new mons is cool!

@ItsTomographic I had no interest in the game. Tried the server slam and quite enjoyed the gunplay and visuals. But at the end of the day, it's still a pvp only extraction shooter that costs $40+ tax. I don't think it's bad, it's just not a genre I can keep playing or really enjoy.

Marathon is being so slept on by the FPS community. It's been really interesting as a content creator, hearing directly from viewers that they refuse to watch because they can’t get past the polarizing visuals to understand that this is truly one of the best feeling FPS experiences in years with tight gunplay, insane tension (genuinely has my heart beating out my chest) and a gameplay loop that actually rewards skill and decision making. But I think that's also the games biggest problem. People like to bash the art style but really I think it's that PvP games just don’t stick like they used to. They’re harder to get into, harder to watch, and don’t have broad, instant appeal. If it’s not immediately accessible or visually “safe” people bounce. So Marathon ends up overlooked, not because it’s bad (it's great) but because it’s different at a time when most players just want familiar. *It's also crazy that Bungie took such a huge risk on a niche game with a niche art style for such a niche demographic so I can understand where the negativity is coming from as far as gamers wanting more than just "another extraction shooter" but they made a damn good one and I hope more people give it a chance.

@ChaoticMeatball Wow this is just completely opposite of my experience. HG + SS were a blast as a kid and B + W were so un-fun it's why I dropped the series for years. Wild how different our experiences/tastes can be. (And no, it's not because of the Dex. I prefer using new Mons in new gens.)

I'm not just on the bandwagon, Gen 2 and their remakes were the only games I was disappointed with as a kid from the franchise until X&Y rolled along. Thankfully Black and White came out 6 months later in Japan so I could quickly wash them down despite the language barrier.

@NuCaloric @noshenaniganery Hell, I swapped main games from D2 to WoW Classic. I'd play a Destiny Classic 100%. Give us Queens Wrath, the loot cave etc etc, just on an accelerated pace until we get to Age of Triumph. Would argue FPS and FoV adjustments are all that I think are important additions.

@OOC_Unova I hated it so much I dropped the series for years. Only new mons was fine, I like using new ones. But I did not enjoy the gameplay. I did not have fun. The story didn't matter because it was a slog trying to keep playing that I just checked out mentally.
