The project significantly expands the existing facility and brings it in line with international best practice. It is a great example of what can be done by Public Works - and which we will replicate nationwide through our renewed determination and strategic interventions. This afternoon, I visited the Small Business Academy in Durban, where young South Africans are gaining practical technical skills through the EPWP National Youth Service programme such as bricklaying, plumbing and electrical work. This kind of skills transfer - from apprenticeships to entrepreneurship - is exactly what the future of EPWP must look like: empowering people with pathways to permanent employment, not just temporary jobs. #LetsBuildSA 💙🇿🇦

[STATEMENT] I have directed the Department of Public Works & Infrastructure to undertake a national audit of all state-owned residential properties following reports of irregular occupation. Public assets exist to serve the people of South Africa - not as private benefits. Where unlawful occupation is identified, we will act and evict those individuals.

Yesterday, I briefed the Portfolio Committee on Public Works & Infrastructure on progress with the Department’s legislative reform programme. Priority bills such as the Infrastructure Development Amendment Bill and the CBE Amendment Bill will strengthen infrastructure delivery and improve accountability in the built environment. Work is also underway to modernise legislation governing state property as we prepare for the establishment of the South African National Property Company. These reforms are key as we work to turn the Department of Public Works & Infrastructure into the economic delivery unit of South Africa. #LetsBuildSA 💙🇿🇦
