Must watch - Turning South Africa into a Construction Site 🏗️📺 This month, the Department of Public Works & Infrastructure completed Section One of the R469 million Burgersdorp Correctional Facility in the Eastern Cape with this project having been significantly sped up over the last 12 months, and which is done on budget! The project significantly expands the existing facility and brings it in line with international best practice. It is a great example of what can be done by Public Works - and which we will replicate nationwide through our renewed determination and strategic interventions. Today, @infraSA_ Head, Mameetse Masemola and myself were at NAMPO in Bothaville, Free State - one of the largest privately owned agricultural exhibitions in the southern hemisphere. 🌾 🤝🚜 During our visit, we met with key role-players in the grain and agricultural sectors, including AgriSA and Grain SA, to discuss partnership opportunities and how the state can better support the sector. I firmly believe that growing South Africa’s agricultural sector through improved rural infrastructure is key to growing our economy and, most importantly, creating jobs. #LetsBuildSA 💙🇿🇦

[MUST WATCH] Yesterday, after delivering the Department of Public Works & Infrastructure Budget Vote in Parliament, I was honoured to spend time with EPWP participants from KwaZulu-Natal alongside Portfolio Committee Chairperson Carol Phiri. 🇿🇦 These young South Africans are learning practical skills such as plumbing, bricklaying and carpeting, and represent what we want to achieve through our Working on Infrastructure pilot programme. Their stories are exactly why we are reforming EPWP: to end gatekeeping and exploitation, restore dignity through work, and create real pathways to permanent employment. Today, I tabled the 2026/27 Budget Vote for the Department of Public Works & Infrastructure in Parliament. 🇿🇦 This Budget Vote reflects both the progress we are making - and the resistance we are confronting as we reform the Department and fight corruption. We spoke frankly about the dysfunction within the PMTE, including inflated leases, underutilised state buildings, ghost employees, and the fightback against accountability and oversight. But we also outlined the reforms for the year ahead: 🏢 Establishing the South African National Property Company to unlock the value of state assets 📱 Deepening EPWP reform through Working on Infrastructure to cut gatekeeping and create pathways to permanent jobs ⚓️ Reforming small harbours to unlock jobs, tourism and local economic growth We will continue turning Public Works & Infrastructure into the economic delivery unit of South Africa. #LetsBuildSA 💙🇿🇦

This morning, I was honoured to be joined by EPWP participants from KwaZulu-Natal ahead of the Department of Public Works & Infrastructure’s Budget Vote in the National Assembly. These participants, whom I met two months ago in eThekwini when they were undergoing skills training in areas such as plumbing, bricklaying and carpeting, represent exactly what we want to achieve with our EPWP programme: giving participants the skills they need to find permanent employment. We sadly announce the passing of DA uMhlathuze Deputy Mayor, Christo Botha. He was a courageous servant for the residents of his municipality. The DA will sorely miss him.
