WORKING VISIT IN LONDON || The Department of Public Works and Infrastructure, led by Director-General Sifiso Mdakane, undertook a working visit to London in the United Kingdom.
As part of the visit, the delegation met with the UK Government Export Finance team in Westminster, led by Co-Head Mr François Pannetier and Ms Charlotte Kemp.
Discussions focused on the operation of the UK Government’s Guarantee System, particularly its role in de-risking lending by banks and other financial institutions for infrastructure projects.

Expanded Public Works Programme Empowers 90 Participants at South West Gauteng TVET College
The Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP), through its Community Work Programme (CWP), is making a meaningful impact at South West Gauteng TVET College in Roodepoort by equipping participants with valuable skills for employment and community development.
A total of 90 participants are currently benefiting from the programme, gaining both theoretical knowledge and practical experience to enhance their employability.
The training focuses on short skills interventions such as Plumbing Hand, Domestic Water Drainage, and Shielded Metal Arc Welding.
As part of ongoing monitoring and support, Mr Mandla Ngidi from the City of Johannesburg (CoJ) visited the college. During the visit, he was briefed on how the programme is positively transforming the lives of participants and contributing to skills development within the community.

The nationwide EPWP Listening Tour provides an opportunity to engage directly with communities about their experiences with the programme, listen to their concerns, and identify ways to strengthen its impact.
Insights gathered during these engagements will help inform a re-imagined EPWP that focuses on creating meaningful work opportunities, strengthening skills development, and driving long-term socio-economic empowerment for communities across South Africa.

EPWP National Youth Service (NYS) Technical Skills Programme oversight visit
Today,Minister @DeanMacpherson interacts with EPWP participants at the Small Business Academy as part of the Department’s ongoing commitment to youth empowerment through the EPWP National Youth Service Technical Skills Programme.
The oversight walkabout is led by Centre Manager Mr Amos Mtshali.
The initiative, launched in 2022, benefits participants from the initial group of 319 who complete life skills and technical training through the Durban High Court project.
Currently, 26 apprentices are on site preparing for their trade tests, with 16 specialising in Electrical and 10 in Plumbing, advancing towards accredited qualifications and improved employment prospects.
