Poke.com has passed that threshold last year – checked me into every domestic flight for over half a year 🫡

Two German kids met at a middle school hackathon. Then they built a 22-ton tunnel boring machine, beat every university engineering team on the planet, and won Elon's Not-a-Boring Competition in Las Vegas. They were 21 and 23. Then they pivoted to AI. Raised $15M from General Catalyst at a $100M valuation in September 2025. Six months later, $300M. The product? An AI assistant that lives inside iMessage. You text it like you'd text a friend. It reads your email, manages your calendar, pays your invoices, rebooks your flights. One conversation thread, one tap. The insight most people are sleeping on: Poke chose the hardest possible distribution channel and that's why it's working. Every other AI assistant built a standalone app. Download it, create an account, learn the interface, remember to open it. The activation energy is enormous. Poke skipped all of it. You already open iMessage 80+ times a day. The AI just shows up in the same place your group chats live. 6,000 Silicon Valley insiders beta tested it over the summer. 200,000 messages per month. Near-perfect retention. The beta users included people from Dropbox, Google, OpenAI, Anthropic, and Founders Fund. That retention number is the real signal. AI assistant apps have historically brutal churn. People try them for a week, forget to open the app, and never come back. When the assistant lives in your texting app, there's nothing to forget to open. The habit already exists. $100M to $300M in six months is a 3x on valuation with presumably very little revenue. Investors are pricing in the distribution insight, not the current financials. Two kids who figured out how to bore through solid rock figured out how to bore through the App Store's monopoly on user attention. The tunnel was always the metaphor.

Today, we are announcing Proximal. Proximal is a research lab for data. Our core belief is that data which is complex enough to teach today’s frontier models is not bottlenecked by domain experts, but by great ideas and excellent software. We are excited about a world in which coding agents can autonomously run for multiple weeks, solve the hardest technical problems and discover novel ideas that advance progress in various domains of science and engineering. We believe that we are not far from this future, but that the biggest bottleneck preventing us from achieving it is training data. Many companies work on data, but most of them are approaching it the wrong way. Historical capability breakthroughs are the result of creative engineers discovering scalable data collection methods, not thousands of contractors manually writing task demonstrations. Inevitably, the potential impact of human data will become smaller and smaller as model capabilities increase: agents are already outperforming most humans in many domains - the number of experts that are capable of judging model outputs shrinks with every new model release. Proximal is a new data company. We are not a recruiting firm or a talent marketplace, but a research and engineering organization that treats data as a problem which deserves the same level of rigor as work on training algorithms and model architectures. We think that this is the most impactful work towards agents that can autonomously solve complex technical problems, and intend to share our research and progress in the open.

@andrewchen @interaction poke helps me with all that daily. Prioritizing emails, sending emails, integration with relevant tools (attio, notion etc)

what's the current best approach on an AI that can help me handle my email inbox? seems like a big opportunity for folks playing with openclaw. For all of us who are drowning in email, this seems like a tier one problem that would be amazing to solve. (And I think I would pay $150k/year to have this product? I bet I'm not the only one) what I want is: - watch my inbox and process emails as they come in - score each message to see if it seems important (look at the sender, the topic/body, if its addressed to me or a big list, if I've ever replied to the sender before, etc etc) - read the email and reference a vast DB of knowledge that's been assembled already (based on my work, meeting notes, what I've replied on, etc), and decide what to do - reply with a draft note. For now, don't send, so that I can review the email -- but in the future maybe there's a YOLO option (but it would probably disclose that it's my assistant writing) - if less important, label it and file away. Eventually gather summaries for all of these less important emails and send me a summary of all of them with links to get back to it - or archive if it seems unimportant - or unsubscribe / mark spam / block if random marketing - if critical send me a notification right away so I can take a look I've played around with a bunch of the current AI tools and nothing quite works like this. There's a lot of blockers: - first, it needs 1000x more context about each problem, which it could get by crawling all my projects/notes/emails/slides/meetings/etc - This system should be designed to take action rather than simply just prioritizing messages. We've had prioritized inboxes for a long time but they're fine, not great - then someone has to put this entire UX together to be cohesive. In the future, we may not even really have an email inbox, but instead an interaction that feels more like I'm talking to an assistant who has a few questions for me. But otherwise just wants to provide a few quick updates and get some yes/nos. And otherwise filter all the noise -- just give me the most important messages It feels like we're very, very close to being able to do this, with the latest models from Anthropic and Open AI, we have the technology already. Someone just needs to package it all together in a way where it's able to index all of your emails and notes and calendars and contacts and sort of create a second brain that knows almost everything that you know so that I actually do things that are intelligent. It seems like with the excitement of OpenClaw we have the architecture to integrate a lot of different data sources and to take actions across multiple different channels. And it's built with one sort of monolithic memory and context, so that you're able to interact with it in such a way where it feels like it can try to replicate your actions more closely than the relatively stateless and memoryless LLM chats that we've gotten accustomed to. If someone is working on this, please point them to me. I would be both a customer and an investor!
