To be honest, As difficult as it was, and as amazing as the glam of being at home sounds, there is nothing like gaining your independence first. There are great men who will treat a girl nicely, but you shouldn’t bet on it. Get your degree—any degree. It doesn’t have to be hard. Choose something enjoyable. Find a way to make money; it doesn’t have to be related to your degree. Choose a way that is enjoyable. No one can ever take that away from you. If I could do it all over again, I would be selfish and choose something that makes me happy, not something where “I can help others.” Because many “others” won’t treat you kindly. The people you will end up working for will feed on your kindness while they only care about the bottom line. You will end up being more helpful by being successful in your own way. But having my degree and being independent does give me an edge over other women and men. I’m not saying it’s necessary, but every single day I get job offers and alerts for temp, part-time, or permanent roles—and every day I’m the one declining with “no thank you.” It’s not for everyone, and no one should have to do something that’s truly not for them. That’s why I say just choose something fun and to your advantage that will enhance you as a person, not a slave job. I would also try to find a school with good professor reviews where you can have an amazing experience. There are so many options. I also heard there are some hacks to getting your general education super fast, affordably, and easily. I wish I’d known about stuff like that, but I’m sure I would not have gotten my degree from USC (University of Southern California)—not that it matters at the end of the day.
