When you read actual scholarship, you’d notice that it’s very different from the impassioned sentimental fluff on social media or podcasts. The scholarship is thoughtful, contentious, provocative and forces you to think regardless of your political persuasion. Read read read!

The attempt to lump historians into Mughal glorifiers vs. Mughal critics is bad. This is not how historians of the left approach this topic. They differ on one interpretation, which I'd come to in a bit. But historians are primarily concerned with political economy(1/n).

@_pripan_ Good question. I think they want to tackle this in a piecemeal manner. Get the religious minorities to accept it first, and then extend it to the tribes at a later stage.

Is there any real reason why tribals are exempted from UCC? Don't tell me they have different customs. All hindu ethnicities/castes/tribes have pluralistic customs.
Himanta Biswa Sarma@himantabiswa

The Uniform Civil Code in Assam will ensure equal application of rule of law for everyone in Assam and ensure fair rights to all, especially women and children. The Janjatiya Samaj of Assam will not be under the purview of #UCCAssam to protect their customs and traditions.

@_pripan_ Obviously, I don't agree with this, and I think it should actually be universal. But a lot of these tribes are in the Northeast in areas where peace and rule of law have only tenuously been established. So the government is unwilling to stir a hornet's nest there for now.

@_pripan_ The highest prevalence of polygamy in India is among certain geographically concentrated tribes. The idea of exempting them is to end religious civil codes for all others without the political cost of forcing reform upon these tribes yet.

@DeepakSrin66110 But then the original claim stands, that Pakistan also has a persecution complex from India.

India doesn't have a persecution complex from Pakistan. Pakistan themselves rate threats from India higher than threats from groups like Al Qaeda. And this is a survey conducted in 2008. In polls conducted in recent years, especially after Operation Sindoor, more Pakistanis have had a hostile view of India. So I do not think it fair to characterize it as a persecution complex. The data doesn't bear it out. And this is a survey by Christine Fair who one can hardly accuse of being unfair.

Wonder how many decades or centuries of prosperity it will take for the crazed Hindu inferiority complex ridden mind to get over their persecution complex. It’s obviously the same for Muslims in south asia but the Muslims are actually doing badly so it makes sense for them to be stupid.

@rohitshinde121 In geopolitics, you have to assess your adversaries in terms of their capabilities, not their stated intent. India's "growing influence in the world" is enough to threaten Pakistan regardless of what Indian leaders say or signal at any given time, because intentions can change.

@rohitshinde121 Given that Pakistan has fought several wars with India and lost one of its two wings as a result of one of these wars, and given that territorial disputes with India still continue, it is not irrational for Pakistan to see tensions with India as one of its biggest threats.

@rohitshinde121 It depends on how you conceive of threats. A large-scale war with India is both unlikely and profoundly damaging if it happens. Terrorist and separatist attacks are far likelier, but the scale of immediate damage would be a lot less.

A petulant man-child, along with a few power-hungry ones, driven by ego and self-interest, is pushing an already fragile world into something far worse. And the ones who never chose any of this are the ones paying the price. How long will the world keep absorbing the fallout of irresponsible power?

@India_Progress This is definitely the first time there has been such sustained focus on Tamil Nadu politics for a period of over a week where all this minutiae has received attention from the national media, and by extension, from BJP supporters across India.

Kerala is about to give BJP another MP and Communists another MLA (and thus another Rajya Sabha MP). Congratulations to Congress. You got a blowout victory, decimated the LDF, and opened the door further for BJP in Kerala, damaging UDF coalition and its credibility for no reason
TNIE Kerala@xpresskerala

While it is yet to reveal its choice, there are indications that the Congress high command has taken a final decision on the next chief minister of Kerala. 🔗 tinyurl.com/3r4988vy ✍️ @kssreejithkumar
