Idris Elba says he didn’t know Stringer Bell was going to die… and admits he’s never watched “The Wire.” Idris Elba: “I didn’t ever meet the real character. I took my inspiration for Stringer from people I knew in the UK. Gangsters that were more suits and smiles than, “Yo.”” Idris Elba: “They were understated, listened more than they talked, and moved with grace instead of trying to be big and tough all the time.” Idris Elba: “The scene where Stringer dies… It was a really tough scene to shoot because I didn’t know Stringer was going to die in that episode.” Idris Elba: “I was like, “What? Wait… what? He dies? What do you mean? It was quite a surprise. I think it was a good move for the show.” Host: “Looking back on the show, how do you think it holds up 20 years later?” Idris Elba: “Famously, I haven’t seen it. I’ve seen some parts of it, I think it holds up. The writing was so good, and the perspective of that part of America was crystal clear.”

A man says his girlfriend wants to keep her last name after marriage… and his family says taking hers would be “emasculating.” Caller: My girlfriend and I have been dating for a little over two years. We’ve definitely talked about marriage and one thing that’s come up is what last name we’re going to take. I grew up thinking the husband automatically gave the family its last name. I never even knew people took the woman’s last name or picked a different one. John Delony: That’s that male privilege, you don’t even have to think about it. Caller: When we first started talking about it, it really surprised me that she had such a strong opinion. She thinks it’s really unfair that women are expected to give up their last name. She really doesn’t want my last name because of that, it hurt my feelings, I felt rejected even though I know that’s not really what it’s about for her. John Delony: But still say just like a male to make this whole thing about you. Keep it going, Seth. Caller: The thing that bothers me is when I talk to my family and my friends, they’re all of the opinion that for me to give up my last name and take her last name would be very emasculating. John Delony: Hold on, they’re idiots. They don’t get a vote.

Caller: "I'm 29 years old... married for three months... and my husband and I are almost $1 million in debt." "We wanna know how to get that free without filing bankruptcy " Dave Ramsey: "How much of that is your mortgage?" Caller: "About $210,000." Dave Ramsey: "So you have almost $600,000 in what?" Caller: "$335,000 in student loans... $136,000 in credit cards, $44,000 in personal loans, and $35,000 in car loans." Dave Ramsey: "How old is he?" Caller: "32yrs old." Dave Ramsey: "What in the world happened?" Caller: "We just kept making poor financial decisions, thinking we'd pay it down as we went." Dave Ramsey: "What's your household income?" Caller: "About $230,000 a year." Dave Ramsey: "Do you both realize how absurd this situation is?" Caller: "Yes. We're scared." Dave Ramsey: "You should be." "You're disgusted... and you should be." "You've been living about 10 times above your means." "I'm getting ready to destroy your life as you know it..." "...because you're not spending money on anything for the next three years".

Tom Holland says getting Spider-Man was everything he ever wanted… until it actually happened. Amy Poehler: You go from The Impossible to Spider-Man. 1,500 people auditioned for that role. It’s like winning a 10-year lottery, it completely changed your life. Tom Holland: It was a really weird day when I found out I got the part, because it’s all I had ever wanted. I remember watching Andrew’s movies in the cinema and thinking, “Imagine if I got the opportunity to play that character.” Tom Holland: I spent six or seven months auditioning and all I could think about was getting that job. Then the day I got it, it was through-the-roof excitement. And then immediate, “Oh… now I have to actually do it.” Amy Poehler: A nightmare. Total dread. Tom Holland: Why did I want this? Doing this fourth film now, Spider-Man: Brand New Day. I felt very similar to the way I did on my first film, excitement, fear, trying to find that confidence that I could do this. Tom Holland: But when I walked on set for the first time… it felt like, “This is exactly what we’ve been missing.” I’m so excited for this next chapter, because it feels different. It feels new, it feels more mature.

@heisdenji method acting isn’t worth it but i guess this is why killmonger felt so real

Michael B. Jordan says he stayed isolated to become killmonger… and had to find his way back afterward. Michael B. Jordan: Killmonger represented one side of a conversation. Black Panther and Killmonger both loved their people and their country more than anything, they just had two different ways of going about getting it done. My approach to acting has always been trying to make things feel as real as possible. Eric didn’t really experience a lot of love throughout his life, he spent a lot of it alone and always had a mission he wanted to accomplish. So while I was making that movie, I kind of leaned into that. I stayed a little bit isolated to myself, I didn’t really allow myself to get too emotionally connected to much of anything. Coming out of that, there was no playbook for how to get back to being more of yourself. Therapy helped out a bunch, being around family, being of service to the people you love and care about, just being present. That was a big lesson for me to learn at that point in my life and career. now I know what I need personally to get out of a character if I have to.

Matt Damon doesn’t hesitate when asked to choose between Jimmy Fallon and Jimmy Kimmel. Host: Jimmy Fallon is a better talk show host than Jimmy Kimmel. Matt Damon: Obviously, obviously. Fuck Jimmy Kimmel. Emily Blunt: No, come on. I gotta fight for Jimmy Kimmel here. Matt Damon: Gross. Host: What is it about Fallon that you love? Matt Damon: It’s kind of like the enemy of my enemy is my friend. But yeah Fallon’s incredibly talented. Emily Blunt: Fallon is incredible. I have to fight for Kimmel, though, he used to be my neighbor and I’m very close with his wife. Matt Damon: He’s never let me on his show, you realize that? Ever, 17 years. Emily Blunt: I know, you’ve had plenty of other talk shows. Matt Damon: Like Jimmy Fallon, for instance. Emily Blunt: Who I also adore. Matt Damon: My opinion of him slightly softened when I heard he was paying his entire staff through the writers’ strike. So I just hate him so much less.

A woman says she called off her wedding after her fiancé cheated… then he refused to help pay off their $8,000 wedding rings. Message: I’ve been engaged for three years but after finding out last weekend that my fiancé cheated on me, I called off the wedding. He had talked me into financing our $8,000 wedding rings and now refuses to help pay them off. The debt is in my name, I have four kids to support so every cent that comes into my account matters. I just want to move forward, how do I do it? John Delony: You did a big, hard, scary thing by saying, “I’m worth more than getting married to somebody who’s going to cheat on me.” Dave Ramsey: Good for you. John Delony: Good for you. Dave Ramsey: Smart girl. John Delony: The next sentence “He talked me into financing our $8,000 wedding rings.” I’d stop right there and reframe it as, “I chose to finance our $8,000 wedding rings.” Take full ownership of every action you took, that reframes this whole thing. “I made a big decision because I’m worth more than this and that decision also came with a financial cost because I chose to finance expensive wedding rings.” Getting another loan is just going to compound the problem. Dave Ramsey: Number one, we’re going to sell the rings. John Delony: Sell the rings and pay the difference. That’s what I would do.

A married woman says the man who hit her car became the person she couldn’t stop texting. Caller: I was in a minor bumper-to-bumper accident. We exchanged information with a stranger which turned into a friendly conversation. Caller: Then it turned into a texting conversation. I’m happily married, and I never would’ve thought I’d do something like this. Caller: The only thing holding us back is that we’re an hour apart. That’s why I haven’t physically done anything to destroy my marriage, but the conversation keeps going through the phone. John Delony: This is like a movie you’d find under your neighbor’s bed when you were a kid. Tell me how I can help, do you want to rebuild your marriage or do you want to be with this guy? Caller: I want to be with my spouse but I can’t. I kind of want both, but I want my spouse more because I love him. Caller: I just don’t know how to end something I never thought I would do. John Delony: You hit delete, you block him, you never contact him again. Then you sit down with your spouse and be honest about what’s happened. Caller: I don’t know if I can be honest with my spouse, I feel like it would open up a jealousy issue. John Delony: Of course it should, the whole thing is a fantasy from an emotionally charged moment. John Delony: Why in the world would the person who hit you on the highway text you the next day and ask how you were? Caller: I don’t know, I guess it was nice, I guess I felt desired and I hadn’t felt that in a while. John Delony: He hit you with his car, I would’ve thought, “This person’s trying to make sure I don’t sue him.” Not ooh

Tom Holland says Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey” felt like perhaps the last time he’d play a boy. Interviewer: This is quite a different role, do you see it as a turning point in your career? Tom Holland: Yeah, I like to treat every job as a kind of milestone in my life… and there’s probably been a few as important as this one. I think I’ve learned more on this job than I have on any other. Watching Matt, Anne, and Chris lead by example and achieve things that no one thought was possible really lit a fire in me. And gave me an ambition that wasn’t there before. It really felt like, when we were making this film it was perhaps the last time I would get the chance to play a boy. And I couldn’t have asked for a better opportunity to sign off on that chapter of my life and see whatever comes next.

Leonardo Dicaprio explains why he believes there’s no better art form than cinema. Interviewer: What is it about cinema that we love so much? Leonardo DiCaprio: It’s the communal act of being with other people in the theater. It’s very hard to make a good movie… but it’s very hard to connect an audience and put them in a set of circumstances where they have empathy for a character. Going to see a movie with other people allows you to laugh at moments that may seem uncomfortable… or connect with the characters in a way you didn’t experience in that moment. It’s one of the most immersive art forms there is. I got to do my first movie… and I sat home and went to theaters and watched movies for a year straight. There ain’t no better art form out there. I hope it stays alive.

Tom Cruise reacts after realizing mission: impossible inspired everything from Toy Story to Shrek. Interviewer: I asked you this for Top Gun: Maverick… Where’s the most surprising place you’ve seen the influence of these movies in Pop Culture? Interviewer; I was looking at animated films. You’ve got Toy Story 3 with Woody doing the cable drop. Tangled. Shrek 2. It’s all over the place… from Spice World to Doctor Who. Interviewer: Have you been surprised to see Mission: Impossible everywhere? Tom Cruise: Yeah… That was so cool. I’m very honored to see that in different ways. Tom Cruise: I’m constantly surprised when people do stuff. I don’t expect it, I just live my life. Tom Cruise: And when it has that kind of effect, I’m like, “Oh… that’s really lovely. Thank you.”

Christian Bale admits Heath Ledger’s Joker made him feel dull by comparison. Christian Bale: When Chris Nolan and I first sat down, we said, “The problem with Batman is that the villains are always more interesting, right?” Christian Bale: “Batman is very close to being a villain himself, so let’s never let him become dull by comparison.” Christian Bale: Then Heath Ledger… Christian Bale: “Oh my God… what a performance.” Christian Bale: It was such a pleasure getting to work with him and seeing how much he put himself into the Joker. Christian Bale: I was watching it going… Christian Bale: “Yeah… this is absolutely fantastic.” Christian Bale: “Are we in trouble here?” Christian Bale: Unfortunately, I was sitting there going… Christian Bale: “I’m feeling a little bit dull by comparison… because Heath is just killing this.” Christian Bale: But I’m so proud of that film. Christian Bale: The Dark Knight is absolutely extraordinary. Christian Bale: I miss him greatly.

Jennifer Lawrence says she'd lose a race to Emma Stone... but she'd definitely win a fight. Amy Poehler: "What's the coldest day you've ever had on set?" Jennifer Lawrence: "Coldest was one of the Hunger Games movies where I was on a frozen lake, but it was actually in Calgary doing Die, My Love. " "It was August, so it was supposed to be warm, and there weren't any warming coats or anything. I was just in a T-shirt or whatever. That was the coldest. It broke my heart. It made me want to cry." Amy Poehler: "You did cry because you were so cold?" Jennifer Lawrence: "I didn't cry on set. I cried in my trailer to Justine. She was like, "What's wrong?" And I was like, "I'm just feeling really cold." "But I was pregnant... and I just remembered. Yeah. Of course I cried. I probably cried every day." Amy Poehler: "What was the hottest day on set?" Jennifer Lawrence: "I think it was the first Hunger Games. We were shooting in North Carolina. It was humid, and we had those jackets on. Running in those jackets." Amy Poehler: "Speaking of running... who would win in a foot race, you or Emma Stone?" Jennifer Lawrence: "She's got, like, really tiny bones, and I just have very thick bones. " Amy Poehler: "So what does that mean for running?" Jennifer Lawrence: "That's hard to know, because thinner bones... she might be faster out of the gate." Amy Poehler: "I think if you got a clock in, you'd knock her out in two seconds." Jennifer Lawrence: "I mean, I could take her out. If it was, like, a fight or a wrestle, she'd stun me. But running? I don't know. I don't know if her hollow bones give her an advantage." Amy Poehler: "What's your go-to Karaoke?" Jennifer Lawrence: "Any Man of Mine" by Shania Twain.
