@thegreatponzini @pagingkaren in the original pressing the red button didn’t do anything but pressing the blue button created an opportunity for suicide. but yeah i agree on the premise that it weakens the point

@hxiao LLMs just spew out whatever shit you put in there. They are propaganda machines and that's all. They have zero intelligence. Their use is people control.

interesting position paper throwing cold water on autoresearch/ai scientist: LLMs can't jump. The thought experiment is this: Take an LLM with a 1905 knowledge cutoff. Feed it every paper, every dataset, every equation of that era. Could it invent general relativity? No. Discovery isn't one thing. It's three. You can induce — generalize from data, which lands you at Newton plus some epicycles to explain Mercury's weird orbit. You can deduce — derive rigorously from axioms you already have, which never gives you new axioms. Or you can jump — invent the frame itself, decide that spacetime curves. That third move is the one that matters, and it's exactly the one induction and deduction can't reach. Penrose put it as three worlds: Physical, Mental, Platonic. Data flows from the world into a mind fine. But the new law has to be discovered into the Platonic world first — and that step is the jump. LLMs are induction machines running over what already exists. Structurally, they don't take it. I think it’s a warning to AI scientists/autoresearch against collapsing two very different things into one word. Hill-climbing: LLMs are already superhuman here, and autoresearch in this sense is real and moving fast. Abduction/leap/jump: a new frame that reorganizes the field, that is a different act entirely, and nothing about scaling induction suggests you get there. Most of what Autoresearch ships today will be spectacular hill-climbing. The jump is still ours for now.

@manabiSRS @imWholesum @gabriel1 yeah should be able to. note that codex lb release package is a bit behind main and main has a lot of fixes that give more support to changes introduced alongside 5.6.

@WenHop21505 @LBacaj it doesn’t stop mid turn but if you run out of usage during a turn it’s not going to start another turn after.

@LBacaj Mine kept going for a long time on ‘goal’ (I started out with 10% of my 5-hour $20/mo usage remaining). It obviously burned through way more tokens than my remaining tokens, but it did get limited. Why?

Something I appreciate about Open AI & their usage limits: they dont kill a running autonomous codex session mid way. Anthropic kills everything mid session. Even a running workflow w/ millions of fable tokens in progress gets burned, need to start it over later. It's terrible.

@codebrewed @mronge i don’t understand what you mean? employees already confirmed that basically only differences are that the switcher from work and codex which was already a setting was made more prominent and now there’s a chat popup? that seems like a 30 minute session with codex tbh sorry.

@mronge I've never seen a company rally around a goal the way we have on the superapp experience. There's rough edges, but the vision is clear and we're all excited.

You can tell the new Codex app was a mandate from the execs and not the same product people that made ChatGPT and original Codex

Hello beautiful people! We have reset usage limits across Codex and ChatGPT Work. And another one will come later in the day. Rejoice. Now that I have your attention, a quick update on ChatGPT Work, Codex and all the updates we shared yesterday. We’ve spent the last 24 hours reading feedback, looking at usage patterns, and talking with many of you. The short version is that there is a *lot* of excitement for GPT 5.6 Sol, ChatGPT Work on mobile & web, but also that we didn't get everything quite right. - We made it too easy to use the highest-compute settings without making the impact on usage limits sufficiently clear. - We reorganized the desktop app in one bold move, making familiar things like chats and projects harder to find. - Our launch framing was focused on ChatGPT Work and to some of our Codex fans it made it feel like Codex was going away over time. Absolutely not our intention, we love Codex and it is here to stay. - And we introduced regressions for some existing multi-agent workflows, alongside a collection of rough edges in plugins and other parts of the experience. We’re landing a first set of improvements today. We’re resetting usage twice so people can keep experimenting, changing defaults and the model picker so they don’t push people toward unnecessarily expensive settings, fixing several plugin submission issues, improving how we represent Codex in the product, and cleaning up some of the most immediate desktop problems. A larger set of improvements will land next week. We’re bringing chats and projects back into the sidebar in a more familiar and customizable way, making usage and reset timing much more visible, clarifying when to use ChatGPT Work and when to use Codex, and addressing the many other smaller pieces of great feedback we've had. The ambition behind this launch hasn’t changed. We think bringing ChatGPT and Codex together into a workspace where people and agents can collaborate is a very important step forward. But an ambitious direction doesn’t excuse avoidable confusion or regressions in the first version. Please keep the feedback coming. We’re moving quickly, and you should see the experience already get better with a few updates today; and substantially better again next week.

You can now vibe code a language model. From a single prompt, GPT‑5.6 built the entire training pipeline and trained a model from scratch on my iMessage history. Locally on my Mac. It now generates replies in my writing style.

@QuinnyPig @OpenAI sorry to disappoint, but you can use your 100% quota on the plan you pay for, on GPT 5.6 forever additionally, the price to will infact stay the same ;)

I'm really confused by @OpenAI's strategy for GPT-5.6. I can't find the date the pricing jumps by 50%, the date it leaves "being included in subscriptions" is likewise missing, and what their employees say here aligns with what the documentation and blog posts say.

@gustavo_pch @mikalcallahan @luciascarlet yeah i’m a bit confused between difference of work and codex. also it was a setting item for a while in codex so it seems they just changed the ux. i’m confused now as to what this “merge” is other than a marketing push of normal chatgpt users to codex and an added “chat” button.

I REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY do not like this app the issue is that there’s only a Work and a Codex mode and no chat mode where you can just… see your regular-ass chats that have your regular-ass memories and regular-ass limits and regular-ass projects and library the chat has been reduced to a tiny little popup overlay on top of Work or Codex I’m sticking to the Classic app until they add a chat mode as 95% of the time I just want to use it for random casual questions and threads and not for Serious Work and the old app was structured in a way that supported this well while the new app makes it feel like you’re not even supposed to be using it if you’re not doing Serious Work, and I really want these to remain clearly separate because I also don’t want all of my personal memories polluting and fucking with Codex where I don’t care about them the old Mac app was clearly neglected and needed a refresh but this is Not It
