@NS_Stations zag zojuist op station Arnhem Centraal op perron 7 ter hoogte van de wachtruimte een lekkage die ook al voor verkleuring heeft gezorgd bij de verlichting. Zover ik weet is stroom en water geen goede combinatie.

Little Friday explorations: A few easy hacks in heap dumping code, and whoosh. Some of this code unfortunately regressed in JDK 21, with mitigating fixes already in 21.0.2 EA, but we need much more speed for production use with larger heaps.

An unfamiliar organisation promised to sponsor the #SLF4J project if we registered on their site. Said registration requires that we grant "act on our behalf" access to our github repository. They explain that "act on our behalf" does not mean what it says. Sounds legit. 🤔 Seriously, as many open source projects are starved for resources, they might easily fall into what looks like a mildly sophisticated scam.

@NS_online treinstel 8663 heeft tenminste 2 problemen. 1. De informatie schermen geven een BIOS scherm weer. 2. Een van de stopcontacten zit los. Stopcontact in derde 2 zit vanaf de 4 zit in het stiltegedeelte boven. Zie foto’s

@NS_Stations de automaat met nummer 201 (in de tunnel) bij Nijmegen is niet defect, maar piept de hele tijd. Het lijkt erop dat hij denkt dat iemand de taal keuze continue switched tussen Nederlands en Engels. Is dat te fixen?

@GrouleffMorten @shipilev Post says when running the core dump to heap dump command on other server you need the same Java version. It’s “worse”, you need the same Java version installed with the same paths on the system.

@GrouleffMorten @shipilev I don’t know of a way to do it without interruption, since you will need some sort of snapshot in order to get meaningful data otherwise. But quicker method is the gdb attach and convert afterwards. Then it’s memory -> disk speed limited. See medium.com/platform-engin…

Someone asked me internally "How do I look into ~300 GB heap dump? Usual tools do not work."
JOL (github.com/openjdk/jol/) has the streaming heap dump parser, which can be used for quick stats. It does a single pass read, takes little memory, and knows Hotspot layout to boot!
