After 25 years as a headteacher, I thought I ought to join the 21st century and embrace twitter! I am the founder Principal of Ark Academy in Wembley.

@SwailesRuth @PaulGarvey4 This post needs reading! We are being constrained by semantics and nitpicking. No school is consistent in every nook and cranny . Bring back best fit

After leading 41 training sessions, visiting 27 schools and working with thousands of teachers since January, I think I’ve got a fairly good handle on the mood in the profession. Here’s what I’ve observed. Everyone is working flat out. Harder than they’ve ever worked before.

Really worrying to see an organisation like @TheNFER go down the discredited 21st skills rabbit hole - skills like problem-solving and creativity are largely domain-specific and trying to teach them as generic skills will backfire.
PLMR Education@PLMR_Education

Curriculum review should ‘incentivise’ schools to teach ’employment skills’, such as communication, organisation and problem-solving - @TheNFER study. More from @SchoolsWeek @FCDWhittaker schoolsweek.co.uk/curriculum-rev… #education #educationnews

I love this graphic! It can be applied to so many pedagogical approaches but for me; questioning is a powerful lens. Ask yourself - and I mean really ask yourself - does your questioning approach move ALL students into the top right quadrant? If not, refine your approach. 🥳👇👌

Where has all the educational discourse gone? I have just wasted half an hour going through endless mind-numbing videos. Nothing! Are there no serious professionals left other than Matt Jones or am I not in the right chats?

Couldnt agree more, students who struggle to hw will be absolutely penalised by coursework. Its bad enough trying to get Alevel coursework for Enlish history etc. Not sure I understand rationale for those either but do know Alevel teachers spend hours trying to get it completed
Tom Bennett OBE@tombennett71

No, and if you care about fairness, it has to be no. Coursework penalises the already disadvantaged child, and benefits students from affluent circumstances. It sounds lovely, but vibes aren’t enough. The less coursework, the better. And that’s *before* you consider the workload issues.

Huge congratulations to @ArkCharter following the grand opening of their therapeutic learning centre offering students a space to access holistic support. After school hours and during holidays, The Jonathan Centre will also be a community hub.
Ark Charter Academy@ArkCharter

It was great to attend the opening of the Jonathan Centre at Charter Academy this evening. It will offer a holistic provision that is available to all students who may need extra support through therapeutic interventions.

Students work harder for teachers they feel care about them, support them, and appreciate their hard work. Adults do too! #2024
