Republicans in Texas, at the behest of Abbott and Trump, are tearing down the checks and balances our democracy depends on — handing power to a small group of Republican politicians to decide for millions of Texans, against the will of the voters.

Nobody likes gerrymandering. Republicans know exactly what they need to do to end this madness—demand that Trump call off his gerrymandering scheme in Texas and elsewhere before it’s too late.

Don’t forget that we are in this redistricting battle because the ideological Supreme Court held (5-4) that partisan gerrymandering cases couldn’t be heard in federal courts Remember: This was a SC that that was configured that way after Republicans stole a SC seat. No stolen seat=different result.

Time to get tough. When they try to cheat we have to fight.

This gerrymandering crisis in Texas has its roots in an ideological Supreme Court decision from 2019 and a stolen Supreme Court seat.

Over the long term, we shouldn’t have political gerrymandering in America, just a fair fight between Republicans and Democrats based on who’s got better ideas. But since Texas is taking direction from a partisan White House and gerrymandering in the middle of a decade to try and maintain the House despite their unpopular policies, I have tremendous respect for how Governor Newsom has approached this. He’s put forward a smart, measured approach in California, designed to address a very particular problem at a very particular moment in time.

We’re grateful to President @BarackObama for being in this fight with us and supporting our mission. California is advancing a process that gives voters the final say on implementing new maps. This is a fair and responsible response to Trump’s unprecedented power grab.

It’s time for those of us who support our democracy to get tough.
