My statement on Tennessee’s immoral gerrymander:

From voting rights to reproductive freedoms, the SCOTUS supermajority Trump created has been methodically dismantling settled law. And Americans have fewer fundamental rights as a result.

Yesterday’s SCOTUS ruling was a serious blow to voting rights, and there won’t be an overnight fix. But we’ve always known this would be a long fight. Our work continues, one day and one election at a time until the VRA is restored in its entirety.

For decades, Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act has prohibited discriminatory voting practices in our elections. Yesterday, SCOTUS weakened this key provision — paving the way for a new onslaught of gerrymanders that silence minority voters.

In a blow to the voting rights of millions of Americans, SCOTUS just ruled to gut Section 2 of the VRA. By gutting one of the most important provisions to fight racial discrimination in our elections, the Court has opened the floodgates for racial gerrymanders.

TODAY: Florida lawmakers are expected to vote on the DeSantis gerrymander. If passed, the map would be a direct violation of the Florida Constitution’s Fair Districts Amendment and we *will* pull every stop to strike it down. More updates to come.

Poll after poll has shown voters in Florida overwhelmingly oppose DeSantis’ plan to further gerrymander the state. Turns out the only Florida voter that matters to Ron DeSantis is Donald Trump.

So, according to Republican logic, it's totally fine when Trump orders gerrymanders without voters consent in Texas, Missouri, and North Carolina. But when voters in VA and CA take a VOTE on new maps to level the playing field - it's 'fraud.' Not sure I'm following here...

Florida's special session is kicking off next week. Republican legislators are panicking, Floridians overwhelmingly disapprove of mid-decade redistricting, and to top it all off, partisan gerrymandering is prohibited in the state's constitution. So we'll see how this goes...
