🚨🚨| NEW: Manchester United are considering appealing the decision to send Lisandro Martinez off as he is facing a three-match suspension for 'violent conduct.' [@StevenRailston]

𝗥𝗘𝗙𝗘𝗥𝗘𝗘 𝗗𝗘𝗖𝗜𝗦𝗜𝗢𝗡 | 𝗟𝗜𝗦𝗔𝗡𝗗𝗥𝗢 𝗠𝗔𝗥𝗧Í𝗡𝗘𝗭 𝗥𝗘𝗗 𝗖𝗔𝗥𝗗 🟥
𝗠𝗮𝘁𝗰𝗵: 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗵𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝟮-𝟭 𝗟𝗲𝗲𝗱𝘀 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗱 (Premier League – 13 April 2026)
𝗜𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁: 56th minute – Straight red card shown to Lisandro Martínez (Man Utd) after VAR review for pulling the hair of Dominic Calvert-Lewin (Leeds) in an off-the-ball incident.
𝗟𝗮𝘄𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗚𝗮𝗺𝗲 𝗔𝗻𝗮𝗹𝘆𝘀𝗶𝘀 (IFAB Law 12 – Fouls & Misconduct)
𝗩𝗜𝗢𝗟𝗘𝗡𝗧 𝗖𝗢𝗡𝗗𝗨𝗖𝗧
“A player is guilty of violent conduct if they use or attempt to use excessive force or brutality against an opponent… when the ball is not in play.”
Hair-pulling is explicitly treated as violent conduct by IFAB and UEFA/Premier League guidelines. It is not considered a “normal football challenge” and carries an automatic straight red card (no yellow option).
𝗢𝗙𝗙-𝗧𝗛𝗘-𝗕𝗔𝗟𝗟 𝗜𝗡𝗖𝗜𝗗𝗘𝗡𝗧
The act occurred away from the ball and was not part of a genuine attempt to play the ball → no mitigating factors for “reckless” vs “excessive force”.
𝗩𝗔𝗥 𝗣𝗥𝗢𝗧𝗢𝗖𝗢𝗟 (Law 12 + VAR Protocol)
Referee Paul Tierney initially did not see the incident. VAR recommended an On-Field Review (OFR). After viewing the monitor, Tierney upgraded to a straight red, correct procedure.
𝗩𝗘𝗥𝗗𝗜𝗖𝗧
The red card was technically correct according to the Laws of the Game.
Hair-pulling has been consistently punished with a straight red in recent seasons.
However, many fans and ex-refs have called it “harsh” due to the lack of malice or injury, but the letter of the law is clear, no discretion for “minor” hair-pulling.
⁉️ Do you think the red card for Lisandro Martínez was the correct decision under the Laws of the Game?

@AdamJoseph The rules are clear - Hair pulling is a red card and it doesn't matter if the original plan was to grab the shirt. Is shirt pulling now fair play?
The same silly excuse by Arsenal woman coach, Renée Slegers in their UWCL game against Chelsea women.
English

Michael Carrick goes in on the first goal & the red card decisions: “Leny Yoro gets a forearm smashed in the back of his head. It's worth looking at again if you haven't seen that.
Which I don't know if you're getting a sending off for what we are getting a sending off for, I don't know how that doesn't get overturned as a goal it's a clear forearm smashed to the side of his head, that first goal shouldn't stand.
.. If he sees [the Martinez incident], we've seen it before he goes to the screen & says 'well actually it's not [a red card], the arm in the face of Lisandro to start with is an arm in the face so he's kind of off balance & off grappling.
He almost goes to touch him to grab the back of his shirt & grabs the back of his hair.. you get a red card? It's not aggressive, there's no tug, there's no sudden movement, he kind of touches it & glances through it.
We've got to be careful with where the game is going if we're giving red cards for that, but you can do two arms to the face for the red card & the first goal & that's deemed alright. That's a shocking decision, an absolutely shocking decision.”

Yeah, this Michael Carrick post-match press conference is going to be must watch TV. Fair play, he went in on the officials in his interview with Sky.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin on Lisandro Martinez's red card: "I don't make the rules, I told the ref my hair was pulled." #mufc

English

🚨 Rio Ferdinand on VAR:
“Since when did this game get so biased?
For the first goal, Calvert-Lewin doesn’t even try to head it. He uses his hand on Yoro, Yoro misheads it, they score. No review.
Then with Martinez, both go for the ball. Play continues, no one reacts… but someone is checking it for a red.
At this point, it’s United against them.
Even if United score… you feel like they’ll find a way to rule it out.”

@FabrizioRomano If he talks about the refs next game he’ll be the one got elbowed and got red card for simulation

English

@Footballtweet Do I like the rule? No. But it is a rule, it's a stonewall hairpull and if you do it it's a red card.
Dont see what the debate is
