Remember why we need Deposit Return 👇🏻 Citizens paying for kerbside, to collect bottles & cans that producers /retailers put in the market! It was then exported and only recently stopped as China refused to take it, it is still sent to other countries

@TheFed_Online continues call for faster application of Deposit Return Scheme in Wales THE FED’S President in Wales, Mark Dudden, has added his voice to calls for faster action implementing a Deposit Return Scheme (DRS) for recycling in Wales and for the adoption of a Deposit Management Organisation (DMO) which can administer it. With the Welsh Senedd election due next week, the Fed has written to the current Government Minister responsible, Huw Irranca-Davies and his officials urging the appointment of a DMO which can administer the scheme and deal with the various technical questions involved in implementing DRS. The sole applicant for the DMO, Exchange for Change, was rejected in its application earlier in April and the new application process will carry on until June. Mark Dudden commented: “The Fed has actively engaged in the implementation of DRS, serving on the Advisory Board of the DMO covering the rest of the UK, but we feel for it to work it must have full interoperability with the rest of Britain and Northern Ireland. As we have also made clear in our manifesto for the election, launched in January, the Fed also has concerns that adding glass to the mix will make it hard for small shops – and ultimately make the best the enemy of the good, undermining the Welsh scheme as a whole. “Whoever takes on responsibility for running it, we hope a new DMO can be put in place as soon as possible to ensure clear communication and support for Welsh retailers when DRS is launched in just less than 18 months.” #DepositReturn #Drs #Wales @BlantFamily @Reverse_Vending herald.wales/national-news/…

Deposit Return Scheme for Wales approved to tackle litter and drive reuse The Senedd has today voted in favour of new regulations that will establish a Deposit Return Scheme (DRS) in Wales from October 2027. The decision marks another important step in Wales’ journey towards a circular economy and tackling litter. A Deposit Return Scheme works by adding a small deposit to the price of drinks in eligible containers when they are bought. Members of the public will get that money back when they return the empty container to a designated return point, such as a machine in a supermarket or shop. The containers are then collected and recycled or reused, keeping valuable materials out of landfill and off the streets. The DRS will complement Wales' already world-leading recycling levels by helping the nation take the next step to further improve on the go recycling and begin the process of piloting and phasing in reuse. UK-leading, it will be the only deposit return scheme in all the four nations to include glass bottles. The regulations put in place the legislation for a DRS that can deliver for Wales, by not only delivering environmental benefit by tackling the climate and nature emergency but also important economic opportunities for green growth, whilst exemplifying the approach outlined in the Wellbeing of Future Generations Act. In passing the regulations it now provides the certainty needed for the work to implement the scheme to now progress in partnership with industry, local government and delivery partners.
Following the vote, the Deputy First Minister with responsibility for Climate Change, Huw Irranca-Davies said: This is a significant moment for Wales. International evidence shows a Deposit Return Scheme can tackle litter, improve on the go recycling and further reduce waste. This will keep valuable materials in circulation for longer — building on the world-leading recycling system Wales has already developed. I look forward to working closely with businesses, local authorities, and communities as we move towards implementation in 2027. The Welsh Government will now enter the next phase of implementation, including the appointment of the Deposit Management Organisation to run the scheme and delivery of the detailed operational arrangements ready for October 2027, alongside continued stakeholder engagement and partnership working. The Welsh Government will also look at how reusable drinks containers could be included alongside single-use deposit items, helping to reduce waste and support a more circular economy. gov.wales/deposit-return…

Digital recycled plastics platform @cir_plus enters liquidation German recycled plastics trading platform Cirplus GmbH is entering liquidation, with operations set to cease at the end of March 2026. In a notice issued by the company, it confirmed that it will enter liquidation as of 31 March 2026 following a shareholders’ resolution that was notarised on 6 March 2026. Pending registration in the commercial register, the company will cease all operations from 1 April 2026. Its legal name will change to “cirplus GmbH i.L.” to reflect its liquidation status. Creditors have been asked to contact the company by email to assert and settle any valid claims by 31 March 2027. Subject to the completion of liquidation requirements, the company is expected to be removed from the commercial register from 1 April 2027. Cirplus GmbH Cirplus GmbH was founded in 2018 in Germany by Christian Schiller and Volkan Bilici. The company developed a business-to-business digital marketplace designed to facilitate the trade of recycled plastics across Europe. Its platform aggregates and qualifies manufacturers and traders supplying recycled pellets, regrind and related materials, providing buyers with simplified access to high volumes in what is typically a fragmented market. According to the company, more than 3,000 companies from over 100 countries across the plastics and recycling industries have used the platform. European plastic recycling sector under pressure The liquidation comes during a difficult period for Europe’s plastics recycling industry. Industry body Plastics Recyclers Europe reported that the sector experienced its “sharpest decline” in 2024. In its Plastics Recycling Industry Figures 2024report, the organisation said recycling facilities representing roughly 300 kilotonnes of annual capacity were forced to close during the year – the largest contraction ever recorded by the association. Preliminary figures for 2025 suggest conditions have deteriorated further. Facility closures are estimated to have risen by around 50%, resulting in the loss of nearly one million tonnes of recycling capacity across Europe over the past three years. The industry organisation warned in August 2025 that the sector is facing “imminent collapse”.

New household bin rules are being introduced across England to reduce confusion and increase recycling rates. Simpler Recycling plans to make the process more convenient for millions of people – which our research tells us is the biggest barrier to better recycling. While 89% of population regularly recycle our research shows 2.3 billion recyclable items are missed - confusion over what can and can't be recycled is leading to many items being binned instead. Peterborough City Council have taken to TikTok to let local household know which items can be recycled and which items belong in the bin. Our Recycle Now Recycling Locator will tell you exactly what can be collected at kerbside in your area, and how to dispose of common items found around the house and garden: bit.ly/3NaGdiS By using our precious resources more intelligently we can create a world with higher standards of living — tackling climate change, protecting nature, and reducing inequality. @Recycle_Now #SimplerRecycling #RecyclingLocator #CircularEconomy #CircularLiving @PeterboroughCC
