I realise that Bowlby’s views on parenthood were reflective of his time, but I would like to see his current followers go a bit easier on the mother blaming.
It’s 2026, not 1953, and mother blaming was never okay, even back then.

In the 1950s, John Bowlby made a radical claim: Humans aren't born as blank slates. We're born needing one thing above all else. A safe, reliable bond with a caregiver. He called this drive "attachment." And argued it creates a lifelong blueprint for how you experience love.

There is no serious danger of leaving depression in pregnant women untreated with antidepressants. Absolutely none. The clinical effect is far below what is clinically relevant and the drugs double suicides and have many other serious harms. It is naive to think that clinicians can weigh benefits and harms. If they did, no one would use antidepressants.

Just looked at notes of the mental health review yesterday. Apparently my mental health care plan was reviewed, I don’t have one, and my suicide prevetion plan was reviewed, don’t have one of those either. Health professionals, please write what the pts actually say.😡

I was just 18 when I sustained serious injuries including spinal cord injuries #SCI in a suicide attempt - when, around this time, a doctor took my mum to one side. He said he didn’t think I would reach 30.
Now in my mid-50’s! Don’t believe dire predictions! #SuicideAttempt

Missing our old Romy girl, who moved on from our couch to the pet cemetery beneath our pear tree a month ago.

To Layla’s obvious relief (you can see it in her face), my wife is home from a successful knee replacement (thank you Mr Varma and the wonderful nurses at Orpington Hospital) and life can return to a semblance of normality.

Amazing things get put out on our street for anyone who wants them to take away. It’s a very efficient recycling service. I just couldn’t think of a practical use we might have for these legs.
