@PatTheMatMan @AlbertaBogieman @guyfelicella Wow, man, this addiction issue hits real close to home for you. You are obsessed with it. Triggered, as Guy would say. I hope you can get some professional help for your anger issues.

@DerekFinkle @guyfelicella I've read 100% of it. Obviously, the addiction issue hits real close to home for you. You are obsessed with it. You are blinded to anything outside of your narrow viewpoint. That's not journalism. That's personal. I hope you resolve whatever is feeding your anger.

@AlbertaBogieman @guyfelicella They aren't leaving. They will be dying in front of your children in the grocery store, McDonald's, parks....enjoy explaining why you didn't do a fucking thing to help. Fucking loser.

This is what “closing sites” really means: People using alone in alleys. People overdosing in public washrooms. People dying where no one can reach them in time. Naloxone can’t save you if no one finds you. Addiction doesn’t disappear because services do. It just becomes more deadly. This isn’t compassion. This is abandonment. Link 🔗 cbc.ca/news/canada/ca…

@guyfelicella @PatTheMatMan And Guy is in no way blinded to anything outside his or his employer’s viewpoints. And this issue isn’t personal for him. So why can’t he concede what everyone knows: injection sites are fishing holes for drug dealers in a way most bars have never been.

Imagine someone drowning and the first question you ask is: “Are you going to use this life jacket responsibly?” That’s addiction policy in Alberta and Ontario. Recovery perfectionism isn’t treatment. It’s a death sentence.

@PatTheMatMan @guyfelicella Given that you’ve read everything I’ve written, perhaps you can direct me to the passage where I wrote that drug addicts are responsible for everything that’s wrong with society. As for anger, I believe you started this exchange by telling me to go fuck myself or whatever.

@DerekFinkle @guyfelicella Just face it, dude. You hate drug addicts. You blame them 100% for their addiction. You blame them for everything that is wrong with society. This shit has been going on my whole life. But just like pot from 50 years ago, the shit on the streets is a hundred times as deadly.

@PatTheMatMan @guyfelicella Police were treated acrimoniously by staff at the site. An undercover officer was interfered with while trying to arrest a dealer. Site claimed police presence discouraged clients from using site. This all changed, of course, after a mother of two was murdered by drug dealers.

@DerekFinkle @guyfelicella Doesn't stop them from being present, collecting evidence, including video, and acting on anything that falls outside of the pervue of the site and its clients....

@PatTheMatMan @guyfelicella Because the site convinced the police in 2019 to operate according to a “non-enforcement boundary” around the site. That worked out great for the drug market denizens but not so great for everyone else, including a mother of two girls murdered by drug dealers there for years.

@DerekFinkle @guyfelicella Why aren't police services patrolling these sites continuously if they are infested with dealers and are conducting illegal business all day long? Sounds like it would be like shooting fish in a bowl...

@PatTheMatMan @guyfelicella As was established through several surveys in my neighborhood, the unanimous viewpoint was that thousands of children should not be subjected to a violent open air drug market several times a day. Our site was able to reverse overdoses but many clients & staff died regardless.

@DerekFinkle @guyfelicella I guess you just prefer it when you can't see it, when it doesn't affect YOUR day, when they die in back alleys, and basements, when they are just an unreported statistic...like the good old days.

@DerekFinkle @guyfelicella I don't see you screaming at Doug Ford to build more treatment centers, hire more doctors and therapists, build more affordable housing, hire police to provide security at safe injection sites....just bitching about the addicted, who happen to be victims...but not in your eyes.

@PatTheMatMan @guyfelicella I said inside a community health centre. Any of those bars require a federal drug law exemption and did they have to warrant to the local board of health that they would operate with a strict “zero tolerance drug dealing policy”?

@DerekFinkle @guyfelicella I know of several bars located within spitting distance of health centre's. In fact our hospital staff kept them busy for decades.

@guyfelicella @PatTheMatMan Don’t mind, Guy, he will be in violation of his comms contract with the government if he admits what drug trafficking experts have testified to: injection sites are “fishing holes” for dealers. Concentrations of armed drug dealers around injection sites are his kryptonite.

@guyfelicella @PatTheMatMan Were the drug dealers who murdered Karolina in a bar or had they commuted from 12 kms away to sell on the sidewalk at noon on a weekday in front of the South Riverdale injection site? A direct answer with no whatsboutisms - thanks.

@PatTheMatMan @guyfelicella Guy already tried this talking point but he wouldn’t answer any of these questions about bars. Let’s see if you can. Also, bars don’t require a federal drug law exemption.
Derek Finkle@DerekFinkle

@guyfelicella How many bars have six fentanyl dealers from 12 kms away on the sidewalk by the front door before noon Monday to Friday? How many bars are located in community health centres? How many bars are funded by the province? What is the ratio of bars to injection sites in Canada?

@TheBreakdownAB I suspect moving overdoses from safe injection sites will mean more calls for paramedics, and more patients in ERs. That’s adding to an existing critical problem.

@guyfelicella @jananeli Guy, injection sites have a policing problem. When the Parkdale site lost their funding, Health Canada said it would only continue their exemption if they came up with community safety plan with the police. So the director met with local police and concluded it was futile!

Derek it's still in your area, in a park, alley or doorway and it's moved to other places. Just now more people see it. Sounds like you have a policing problem. Now more people are at risk, so you haven't solved anything. You go tell the family member who dies of an overdose that you are against them using at those sites.

@guyfelicella @jananeli As for the solution, you’re not going to have any more influence on that than I am. Though I do think we’d agree on some things. Not enough space here but, in part, a major scaling up of hospital-like facilities focused on addiction & mental health needs that provide housing.
