@TheBreakdownAB I suspect moving overdoses from safe injection sites will mean more calls for paramedics, and more patients in ERs. That’s adding to an existing critical problem.

@MimiProbably @PfParks LaGrange must be feeling the heat. Her story is starting to diverge from the Premier’s. Reality is starting to set in with the RCMP searches this week.

"I was so supportive of Athana's investigation that I ordered her to stop it and then I ordered the AHS Board to fire her and they wouldn't so I fired them and then I had the Deputy Minister fire Athana. Nobody could have been more supportive, actually." #ABPoli

Adriana LaGrange asked about the limited scope of the Wyant report given new information coming out Says she'll look to RCMP and AG probes for more information, adding she always had procurement concerns Adds she was also supportive of Athana Mentzelopoulos' internal AHS probe

@PfParks One good bit of news - if the UCP MLAs keep talking they’ll bury themselves with their own words.

@TheBreakdownAB It would probably never happen, but politicians should have a professional organization that sets minimum standards of practice, similar to other professions. The professional organization should have the power to enforce those standards.

@RodKahx Trump’s getting heat for the money already spent on his war, so now he’s going to try to scam the rest of the world into paying.

@DuaneBratt Why does Trump keep saying they’ve won, but the war continues? His definition of “won” must be different than mine.

@cspotweet If there was a problem at AHS, she’s the leader of the gov and if she didn’t exacerbate the problem, she certainly did nothing to alleviate it. An AHS problem while Danielle Smith is the Premier is a Danielle Smith problem first and foremost. Deflection is admitting incompetence.

“This is an AHS matter, looking at AHS personnel, and we would ask for everyone to be patient while the RCMP does its work.” Smith defends UCP government in first appearance in legislature since RCMP searches theglobeandmail.com/canada/article…

@PfParks @teachtheteecher devastating mental conditions)? A good leader takes advice, they don’t make uneducated declarations that remove rights and cause pain and suffering. 3/3

Anyone find it odd that a self professed “Libertarian” Premier is meddling so much in personal Autonomy? This govt is in between the doctor and the pt/family on: Addictions care Transgender care End of life care And soon reproductive care…
BoredAF@JNOT88

This affects me personally! When I received my diagnosis of a progressive lung disease, with no cure…. I was relieved that I’d have this choice in the future. Danielle is trying to take that for me. She wants my children to watch me suffer to death. Literally. 1/

@PfParks @teachtheteecher She clearly gives no consideration for medical expertise, but what about common decency and caring for physical health (pain and suffering in the final stages of life), mental health (the mental issues related to being in pain for the patient and their loved ones, or simply 2/3

@PfParks @teachtheteecher Not only is the Premier inserting herself between patients and doctors, but every time she intervenes it’s to restrict rights. At best it’s based on her personal interpretation of evidence, at worst it’s based on no evidence. In either case she’s way out of her lane. 1/2

@KristinRaworth @DJJJcalgary Now the UCP is telling me how I may or may not die. They’re putting their poor judgement above that of doctors with years of educ and practical experience - pure arrogance. The UCP gov sets the stage for people to die in emerg, but “saves” them from dying via MAID.

My step mother used MAiD. I don’t know if she would have died within a year but I know she would have lost capacity to consent, advanced consent being also removed by this bill, I do know she was in pain every single moment of her life. I know her disease was going to kill her slowly and brutally. I know MAiD was what she wanted and the most peaceful way to go. This bill is not reflecting the reality of those who are dying from debilitating illness.
Courtney Theriault@cspotweet

Alberta introduces bill stipulating that only those likely to die of natural causes within a year would be eligible for medical assistance in dying, better known as MAID. timescolonist.com/national-news/…

@helpme1976 @CTVCalgary There are a few “bad apples” in every bunch, including docs. There are occasional stories about billing fraud. Like any other business or industry, effective policies and systems need to be put in place to minimize and discourage misuse of the system.

@helpme1976 @CTVCalgary I think the government is mismanaging the healthcare system. I also put accountability with government leadership. They took the “top” jobs. They are where one needs to look first for problems. Strong leaders will never blame the organization they lead, but this gov does.

@daverater @CTVCalgary Its not the government who deals with the physicians though..its AHS..if you think the gov is micro managing the healthcare system you are wrong.

@helpme1976 @CTVCalgary I agree it could work. It has been done in Europe, but the medical environment there is apparently quite different from here. Those differences would need to be taken into account. I question if this government could tie their shoe laces - or maybe they use Velcro! 3/3

@daverater @CTVCalgary The docs will be tasked with reporting their time in public and private. They are used to rigorous reporting to get paid. I used to do billing for 9 family practices docs who also worked emerg. I was paid by the physicans. I believe this system could work well..

@helpme1976 @CTVCalgary health care system is a disaster - especially as a number of emergency docs keep warning us. The problems are more apparent in emergency, but they result from issues throughout the system. If a gov with common sense and business acumen were to set up 2-tier health care, 2/3

@LukaszukAB I’m confused - how does revoking constitutional rights, shady dealings and not doing what you say you’re going to do fall within humility and purpose?
