James, let me say: you've been manipulated and duped by a known scam artist and charlatan (Nerayoff). I'd like to break down a few things for you. 1. Your video and assorted tweets confuse various categories like the decentralization of the ethereum protocol with various private companies and foundations that do not control the Ethereum protocol. Ethereum is not a private company, nor is it controlled by the Ethereum foundation. Ethereum is a decentralized protocol with a long history of many governance fights and forks that have emerged from that decentralized protocol/governance. 2. Your video incorrectly implies that the history of the Ethereum protocol has been deleted, which is absolutely false and easily verifiable on-chain. 3. Many private companies and foundations exist to aid in the creation and success of various decentralized protocols, but do not control them. It is also common practice for a private company or foundation to have an email retention policy. This is because this industry is full of hackers, scammers, and various authoritarian state actors around the world (you noted CCP, for example but I have friends who had their email hacked and then their life savings stolen by North Korea). Email retention policies are commonplace and not a scandalous revelation. 4. You wrote "Interesting..." in response to a video of Vitalik discussing work to further decentralize Layer 2 networks. It is widely known that Layer-2 protocols are still too centralized. Layer 2 networks are blockchains aiming to provide additional scalability to Ethereum (or sometimes other protocols), while deriving various levels of security and decentralization from the Ethereum protocol. The lingering centralization of these networks is because the technology of Layer 2 networks are still primitive and prone to security vulnerabilities, but these networks are working constantly to increase their decentralization. It is basically the largest thing this industry is working on. You can learn more about the current state of decentralization of each L2 network on sites like L2Beat or any of the various projects that track the increasing decentralization of L2 networks (and the competition between different companies to achieve this decentralization). 5. Nerayoff claims to have been a "Co-founder of Ethereum" and to have "Invented Utility Token, ICO, Security Token & iNFTs". This is obviously false to everyone who knows the history of Ethereum. If his claim were true, he should be able to produce a Github account with a history of work on the Ethereum protocol. But in reality, this person is not a software engineer and has very little technical accumen at all. He is just a low-level attorney who briefly consulted for the early Ethereum Foundation who then tried to convert that experience into a long-running series of career scams to enrich himself. 6. Your own video notes that Nerayoff has been associated with various scams after his brief publicly documented work of sabotaging the Ethereum foundation. I do not understand how that wasn't more of a huge red flag for you in creating this story. 7. You should research Nerayoff's relationship with Ripple (XRP). If you are unaware, Ripple was the prescursor to Central Bank Digital Currency-style crypto projects. Ripple operated an extremely centralized blockchain that was meant to help banks accelerate settlement so that they could compete against decentralized protocols like Bitcoin and Ethereum. For years, it was the choice of people who believed that governments would attempt to crush BTC and ETH, and that a centralized alternative controlled by a private company would rise victorious with the blessing of the banking system. A simple Google search of "Steven Nerayoff XRP" reveals countless bizarre articles where Steven Nerayoff claims as recently as 5 months ago that XRP will emerge as a "world reserve currency" for governments and that "XRP cannot have any price ceiling due to its unique use case, unlike other cryptocurrencies." 8. After the SEC went after Ripple during the Trump years, the Ripple leadership became notorious for creating and funding bot armies and smear campaigns that spread the lie that Ethereum had a secret deal with the SEC to not be labelled a security (an agency that has been waging war on Ethereum for years). This lie was part of a broader legal defense by Ripple to smear their credibly more decentralized competitors to justify the decisions they'd made which were intentionally contrary to the values of decentralization. For anyone who works in our industry, the idea the Ripple is a bastion of decentralization is absolutely bizarre (hilarious even). And to claim that someone like Nerayoff who is such an unapologetic shiller of XRP is a whistleblower trying to defend decentralization... LOL. Listen, I share all of this with you as someone who also opposes dangerous gain-of-function research. I work in the crypto industry because I want freedom for humanity. But sir, you could not be more wrong here. Even if you don't realize it, you are producing a hit piece for very evil people. Please do better.
