@MattJamesBoyle @goinggodotnet @crtvcreature Finally, if you have a crash in production without the proper logging already in place (maybe you didn't expect a crash somewhere) a debugger will allow you to look through a core dump and analyze the failure without first adding logging and redeploying.

@MattJamesBoyle @goinggodotnet @crtvcreature Also, some things are not possible w/ println debugging. Delve has the ability (via RR backend) to record program execution & play it back faithfully. If you have a bug that only occurs 1/1000 runs, if you capture it once you can reproduce it 100% of the time and debug it.

If this is true, this is going to make my course much shorter 😂😂

@goinggodotnet @MattJamesBoyle The Go team was actually working on a debugger, there are relics of the beginning of the implementation, it was going to be `go debug`, but Delve launched first! The Go team are in favor of debuggers in general, all the way back to the Acid debugger (swtch.com/~rsc/talks/aci…).

Have you ever wondered why the release of Go didn't come with a debugger? I appreciate the work @DerkTheDaring did with Delve and the support the language team has provided. I've never used it, and probably haven't turned a debugger on in 20 years. If you take my class you've heard me talk about team members needing my permission to even turn one on.
