@AlexPowers3000 Force users have super human reaction time and can also see into th future to some extent. So the strikes we see aren’t the ones the fighters are thinking about. They are several moves ahead looking for an opening. Like grand master chess players, setting up moves in the future.

People focus on Rey's unearned power and skill, but honestly the worst thing she did that displayed her status as a Mary Sue is in the ending of the Force Awakens.
After learning her husband and father of her child Han Solo has just died in battle, what does Leia do?
Console Chewbacca? A grieving friend who was literally honor bound to protect Han, who saw him as family and was equally family to Leia having gone through years of adventures together?
No. She hugs the nobody scavenger girl who showed up five minutes ago, barely knows, and leaves Chewbacca to grieve alone.
The whole movie was bad but that one moment offended me in a way I can't describe. It was anger that can't be put into words.
THAT demonstrates why Rey is a Mary Sue.

Naturally she fails to understand the meaning of Mary Sue entirely. It does not mean "girl character", it means "perfect character who can do anything with no limitations". Luke Skywalker was a half decent pilot with a degree of natural ability with the Force that takes him years to develop. He isn't particularly good at anything else. From the very beginning of The Force Awakens, Rey is an expert pilot, a master martial artist, a top spaceship mechanic, and within five seconds of finding out that the Force exists ascends to the level of Jedi Master. She's also hot, smart, brave, and all the other good things. She needs neither assistance nor instruction. Character growth is unnecessary and impossible. Her only struggle is getting people to admit her natural perfect awesomeness. And even this comes easily to her.

What I find interesting about the Newsoms is that they both relentlessly promote liberal/left ideologies that are corrosive to family formation and undermine traditional values. However, at the same time, they've been in a heterosexual marriage for 20+ years and have 4 children together. By those measures, they are more "trad" in terms of their own lifestyle than most Americans are, even a lot of conservatives aren't married with 4 kids. So what that tells me is the Newsoms KNOW that the traditional family model is the best; that's why they chose it when they both could've chosen anything else. But as elites they still promote insidious ideologies that end up harming the ordinary people who listen to them. It's a perfect illustration of "luxury beliefs."

Still incredibly heartbroken that The Acolyte was canceled before it even had a chance to expand upon the concepts and ideas it presented in its first season.
Genuinely one of the most unique Star Wars projects ever. Really hoping that we see these characters and/or this story continue in one way or another.
