Hardest working journalist in the biz. Pretty much the only one who covers distance running in the state. He’s spread pretty thin across a lot of HS sports. Check it out.

This takes a lot of leg work to complete. Probably the most labor-intensive project I work on the whole year. Have to email the coach of every single athlete to make sure they’re healthy and haven’t transferred. I’d very much appreciate you checking it out!

@bcpdistance That’s fair, but other states do it as well so I wonder about the health aspect. I just like the idea of adding more competition to the meet, although I understand the concerns.

The 4x200m relay would be a great addition to the AIA Divisional and State Track and Field Championships.

Stole this from Basha, but we’re in agreement. Football players should run track! Shoutout to our head track coach and DC @JRutt_4. Some serious speed coming to the gridiron this fall!

Co-byline w/@azc_obert: Phoenix Bobcats track and field club, which started in 1981, is searching for a home after Paradise Valley Community College terminated its lease following a 10-year partnership. No explanation was given. via @azcentral: azcentral.com/story/sports/2…

Want your athletes to run faster in every race? Start with one distance: the 1600m. Here’s why. The 1600m is the sweet spot—a perfect balance of speed and endurance. Long enough to test aerobic capacity, but short enough to sharpen speed. It's the gold standard for setting training paces. Here's how I use it to train my teams: 1. We run 1600m time trials early in the season to get a benchmark. 2. From there, every pace we use is a calculated percentage of that 1600m time: • Longer runs (3200m, 5k, long run pace) = less than 100% • Speed work (800m, 400m) = greater than 100% 3. We run another time trial every 2 weeks until the season begins and update progress. This system is about 90% accurate at predicting race times. Seriously. Want a faster 800m? Train to get faster in the 1600m. Want a better 5K? The 1600m still holds the key. I've used this method for over 15 years. I've watched it turn nervous beginners into confident racers. The 1600m gives us realistic targets and builds unstoppable momentum. So, stop guessing. Start using the 1600m as your anchor—and watch your team transform.

It’s never fun to write an obituary, but I did my best to sum up the life of former local coach Clyde Volz, whose impact can be felt far and wide on the Arizona track and field community — even to this day. ✍️ via @azcentral: azcentral.com/story/sports/h…
