Ya but they didn’t have the exclusivity and it should be the premium console. Their whole business the past gen was confusing and convoluted. Plus they were selling a subscription base which flopped hard. Keep it simple, don’t price yourself out of the expected console market. This is how it was in the past and worked well. OH xbox and more notably 360. That’s a big reason VR still hasn’t taken off. Price of entry is high, confusing, and no games. A spew of other reasons as well.

@DesignLvLUp That’s what the Series S is, it was super cheap for a console, but you end up getting a sort of inferior experience
English

Something I think Sony or Microsoft should do is make their console extremely cheap, eat the cost, and bank on selling more exclusive titles. The gap with consoles are the heavy price tags. They went the make games cheap route to drive more console sales, but people can’t just drop 6-700 now a days.
Make the console affordable and sell more games. The games are the money maker not the console. People buy consoles because of the IPs not because of the console.
English

They ain't doing it cheap enough. Roblox entry point is a kids chrome book from school that costs 100$. Same with Nintendo, although they sold the first Switch at a profit (but the hardware is still "affordable"). People buy Nintendo Switch because of their games and the exclusivity and affordability. Xbox and Sony have such a high price of entry, they are missing out on a lot of sales for the games.
English

@DesignLvLUp This is already what they do, but it seems like each generation is weaker and weaker with the “console” selling games, and even more so with something like Gamepass
English

That's business. You sacraface for the return. The current model doesnt work and will continue to get worse. Roblox does numbers because the entry point for hardware is low. Their goal should be to have a console in as many people's homes as possible and monetize that way. No one buys the console because it's cool. What separates Xbox from Sony hardware wise? Not much. They need to sell software more as that is scalable, easier, faster, and cheaper if done right than hardware. Amazon operated at a loss by a lot for nearly a decade to brute force its way into the consumer market and to get people to use their service, then monetized once people were in.
English

@DesignLvLUp They already make a loss on each console, using licensing fees to make their money back and then make a profit. Any new console needs to be better than what went before or no one will upgrade either. DDR5 RAM and Storage prices have jumped 300-400%. They can't afford to.
English

@charlieINTEL Said it for a while. It sounds like a good thing on paper and allowed people to play many games, but when things have no entry cost, perceived value goes down.

Many leaders within Xbox Games Studios reportedly believe Game Pass has 'destroyed the values of their games'
'There are a lot of people ... in studio leadership within Xbox who absolutely detest Game Pass. They think it has taken away from the value of all games; think it's been a detriment to the games industry."

@libbypeteanim Cool stuff. One game I really like that does something different with respawning is Sunset Overdrive. I really like how they have different animations for respawning that aren't just a teleport.

@NerosCinema COD4 was my first SND love. But BO2 just had the whole package. Game modes, pacing, combat, counterplay, intensity, great for viewers, balance, and so on. It just had the right amount of depth and not bloated with everything.
English

@DesignLvLUp In my mind, with a few changes, I think COD4 SND is the purest and best form of Call of Duty
English

BO2 was the best competitive COD ever. Might be a hot take but I genuinely believe if it branched off as the main competitive COD and was just expanded on, it would be the biggest esports game today.

@DesignLvLUp I really need to get in the swing with some personal LD work.

People with this mindset are extremly short sighted and short term thinkers. It helps today, but what does it do tomorrow? This old man doesnt have kids to worry about. We live in a more corrupt capitalist society. If you are no longer needed, what do you think happens? What do you think the government will do with this tech? You want to be watched, tracked, no privacy from gov, money locked, etc., because it makes your job easier today?

In terms of setting, I'd still do it. But I'd be interested to see if it's mechanically similar. Almost all settings have been done in some fashion or another, the design is what separates overlapping games. Strong mechanics would be the surgery part, harvesting organs to power your UFO, and can do some mechanics like that board game where it's about precision. Have a bumpy ride, physics based, need the right amount of anesthesia to keep them still, etc. I'd be really surprised if that is being done.

@DesignLvLUp I will keep looking but I swear I saw it on tik tok or something...some alien friendslop thing

There are thousands of games released a month these are just the ones you see. If you want to play and see something different, then go browse and don't let marketing pick your game for you. There are plenty out there.

Everytime I see these games go viral I feel my brain dying. Is it not just same thing different font? Am I living in a time loop? Is gaming a disposable medium no different from a morning coffee now? Please help me understand.
