Random info in a previous #DOA game, Naotora seems to be the only character that can completely stop any low wake up kick option using drill kick with zero guesswork, zero timing, and any setup that doesn't catch her on startup. Mid wake up kicks will only knock her to the ground while in drill so it resets the wake up game. Works on player controlled as well to avoid CPU timing shenanigans. What happens here is that you can condition someone to just not low wake up kick at all and force them to commit on getting up to hold it, getting up and block, or mid wake up kick to avoid guesswork. The drill kick on the continuous hit is also a natural combo meaning it can't be held until the hits are finished, or she does the follow up launcher/wall splat kick after which is the only one you can hold. Sadly this type of info is probably far too late on the game's lifespan to probably not matter as much since Naotora is also a rare character that not many use, but info is info.

Yep. It does exist but you certainly have to look for it. An example video at the bottom. The thing with DOA's KBD is that it not only varies by usage, but it varies by characters as well so it's not inherently universal. Some characters are very very good with it, while some are within the average to not so well with it. It's typically more niche than the standard movement in DOA because DOA's movement system and buffering system is very loose where you have multiple options on how you'd want to move. In DOA, some characters have backflips so that they don't have to KBD. Some characters lack the option to a backflip so they have to KBD, but the usage for it is very different compared to other games. For starters, backdashing in general for DOA has a CH penalty attached to it similar to VF if you get hit. It's basically the consequence for abusing it due to how free the movement is in DOA, it's very very loose & free in where it's actually almost very easy to do in DOA to the point you can go across the room in seconds. At times, you'd only be KBDing at specific moments which is typically: - Mid-range punishment - Wake up kick whiff punishment (especially near the wall after a wall splat) - Moves that land on block with specific pushback & are very safe. - Trying to force camera and positioning to specific parts of the arena like the water for CH lows for guaranteed launchers - Life lead in baiting people to get closer because they are fishing for your CH backdash, so some characters have good keepout attacks that are good if it lands in CH when they are running in etc. Outside of those you would typically try not to abuse it in every scenario because CH on DOA is a huge deal due to how the stun system works. Some moves won't stun on NH, but they will certainly stun on CH. It has more positive than negatives, but it's very character specific that you'll not only need character matchup knowledge to know what's incoming for mid-range situations, but a lot of situational awareness on the arena so that you don't get backed into a wall or properly timing a whiff punish. Akira from VF who's a guest character in DOA5LR in the video for example has an excellent version of it and probably the best looking one because it's more obvious than some characters in the roster and looks the cleanest, on top that his is very useful since he also has great whiff punishment options. Personally i'm on the opinion that you should give the game a try, and try out KBD even just for fun in training mode without having to go for netplay, and then decide from there if DOA gets rollback in the future.

I was wrong about "cannot KBD in DOA" I skimmed like four Top 8 matches and wasn't able to find any KBD until Evo 2018 grand finals, so I assumed that even if it was a thing, it wasn't competitively relevant. Then some DOA players including Rikuto himself corrected me with some clips and explanations, which was cool If DOA6 or 5LR had rollback I'd be interested in giving them a spin and see how much I could abuse KBD, because in-and-out spacing mindgames are more fun to me than up-close string mindgames I stand on the VF stuff though😛

Believe it or not, but those specific heavy sound effects might be a bit exclusive to Akira I believe (least as far as i'm aware from trying both games with the roster). There are some similar sounds to the explosive impact he does from others, but roughly like 70% of his movekit has like this shotgun noise to it from most of his enders. Considering that he does a lot of damage from the get-go, it does make sense from an impact standpoint.

No problem. Anytime. Cool thing is that both 5 & 6 have a free version where you can just hop on training mode trying out KBD whenever you want. DOA does desperately need Rollback since mechanics for DOA are extremely sensitive. You can lose half your life from one whiffed throw out in the open, figured you can just enjoy your time in training mode and make any decisions you want from there. Even if it ends in the conclusion that you may not like it, hey.. at least you tried it and that's perfectly ok.

I dont think that enough people understand that the reason i have always liked VF was because it feels like a choreographed kung fu movie when played with 2 people at an equal level. Not many games are as hype when neither side lands what they are going for.
