@saltyreigns 🤣🤣
Banking is evil and akin to slavery!? Paaalease 🤦♂️
Simply put there’s one thing worse than a bank making money - a bank that doesn’t make money 🤷♂️🤣
English

@Tanmedia @kellyenz @TheCoot5 @NicolaWillisMP @dbseymour Half the people who want more public debt also want to hand money out to the constituents.
You’re right though - that layer of consultants deliver very little value at the end of the day.
English

@DetectiveDick4 @kellyenz @TheCoot5 @NicolaWillisMP @dbseymour Good question. Arguably, NZ (and Aussie) are tied to the economic dogma of "low public debt is good" - but it needs to be challenged. I think everyone would agree on the notion of value in public spend; for ex, overpaying consultants for questionable output not good.
English

quick question for @nicolawillismp and @dbseymour
Why do you incessantly whine about debt to GDP when Japan has a ratio approaching 200%,and most certainly isn't in the crap ?
Answers on a Postcard.
English

@Tanmedia @kellyenz @TheCoot5 @NicolaWillisMP @dbseymour I’m not arguing there haven’t been benefits, but I’d love to know how this relates to NZ’s increase of debt/GDP 🤷♂️ arguably New Zealand household debt/gdp is much worse than Japan.
English

@DetectiveDick4 @kellyenz @TheCoot5 @NicolaWillisMP @dbseymour Sectoral balances. While Japan has comparatively high public debt, it has low pvte debt to GDP across firms and h'holds. And a pertinent point is what public debt has achieved - similar to China.
English

@Tanmedia @kellyenz @TheCoot5 @NicolaWillisMP @dbseymour Once again, has nothing to do with the original question of NEW ZEALAND’s debt/GDP ratio.
But sure, Japan has a unique structure that has worked for them. Although their massive debt programme could come and bite them in the ass. E.g. cost to issue 30 year >4%
English

@DetectiveDick4 @kellyenz @TheCoot5 @NicolaWillisMP @dbseymour On a quality/return‑profile metric, Japan’s NIIP has a systematic tendency to earn higher returns on external assets than it pays on liabilities compared to Germany.
English

@Tanmedia @kellyenz @TheCoot5 @NicolaWillisMP @dbseymour Something that has nothing to do with NZD devaluation 🤷♂️
Besides, Germany overtook Japan overtook Japan as the world’s largest creditor in May 2025.
English

@DetectiveDick4 @kellyenz @TheCoot5 @NicolaWillisMP @dbseymour Yen depreciation mechanically boosts the yen value of foreign-currency assets, further increasing the reported Net International Investment Position in yen terms. Japan is the world's largest creditor.
English

@kellyenz @TheCoot5 @NicolaWillisMP @dbseymour Also… the Japanese Yen has lost 45% of its value when compared to the USD over 5 years. The NZD is “only” 20% weaker 🤷♂️
English

@TheCoot5 @NicolaWillisMP @dbseymour NZ 10 year govt bond rate in blue and Japanese 10 year rate in white. Note the very different scales. You can have higher debt if your interest rate is lower.
Also note the radical change in trends. We don’t want to blue line to move up like the white line is doing.

@BaigLynda @CathKakariki @MariaSherwood2 So I’m not some anti vaccine cooker. I got double jabbed, guess I’m just one of the unlucky ones?
English

@BaigLynda @CathKakariki @MariaSherwood2 No need to google…
Here’s what happened to me 🤷♂️
Unless you think double bypasses are common for 44 year olds?

English

Leave her alone. No wonder she lives in Australia.
nzherald.co.nz/nz/auckland/da…
English

@AucklandIsland @MariaSherwood2 Strong retort, Clare.
I’m so glad you decided to engage with your compelling arguments. We are all so enlightened now 🤣
English

@CathKakariki @MariaSherwood2 That seems incongruent with the fact Jacinda can’t live in NZ because so many people despise her 🤷♂️
If you don’t think vaccine injuries are a thing then you’re an absolute clown 🤡
I might be a cooker (in your words) but at least I’m not fucking stupid 🤣
English

@DetectiveDick4 @MariaSherwood2 She didn’t destroy the fabric of society though.
Only a handful of you cookers are still crying about lockdowns and vaccines.
Move on

English

@Dane_Giraud I’m not triggered by it.
I do think it’s a dumb idea though.
Have they considered how it will be enforced?
Their business, their rules 🤷♂️
English

To any #freespeech supporters grumpy about a te reo Māori cafe... Two languages mean twice the free speech!
English

@HelenaT57230672 Sunlight is the best disinfectant!
And her concept of law and her sense of entitlement need to be exposed for the insanity it truly is.
So yes, the more people who hear her nonsense the better 🙏

Hobson Pledge feel threatened so they're attacking Tania which is laughable because she's all for it. Any publicity is promotion for her 😂😂😂
Hobson's Pledge@HobsonsPledgeNZ
“I don’t want to do this job.” Why seek election to Parliament if you do not even believe in the role you are asking New Zealanders to give you? This is not humility. It is a warning sign. The goal does not appear to be serving within the system, but entering it to dismantle the constitutional foundations it stands on.
English

@tukakimatt Even the way you’ve framed this, you know it’s full of bullshit.
You won’t accuse Lloyd Burr of what he said because you’ve got no idea whether it’s true or not and don’t want to be sued for defamation.
English

A year on from the incident inside the Minister of Finance’s office involving Maiki Sherman and Lloyd Burr, there are still more questions than answers.
I now know what is alleged to have been said in the exchange involving Burr. But it’s not for me to disclose it. It’s for Lloyd Burr to explain it publicly, so people can finally judge the full context for themselves.
What we do know is this:
A senior political journalist lost her job.
The Minister of Finance hosted inappropriate boozy drinks inside her ministerial office.
Someone who was not even in the room — and who is connected to a right-wing lobby-style organisation, not journalism — somehow obtained and published selected parts of the exchange, but not all of it.
That selective leaking was an extraordinary convenience for the people who benefited from the fallout.
It’s also worth remembering the political context at the time. The Government was under pressure over TVNZ, the polls were softening, and questions were being asked about the Prime Minister’s leadership.
Any reasonable observer could conclude there was some serious political skulduggery at play.
But the biggest unanswered question remains: what exactly was said, and why has only part of the story ever been told?
If there is fuller context that changes the public understanding of what happened, then Lloyd Burr should front-foot it and tell the public himself.
Because after a year of silence, that silence is starting to say a lot.

English

@meerkat01155611 @Apodictator Yep. Pretty pathetic!
Makes stuff up, can’t respond to logic, then blocks you 🤷♂️🤣

English

@MsWonderOutLoud This is the bit in the substack article you’re talking about.
Sherman admits what she is claimed to have said is true.
Burr denies what is claimed he said to be false.
Seems to be a fair characterisation. She’s put both points of view across, and tried to remain impartial 🤷♂️

English

Ani O'Brien knew Maiki Sherman’s “how would you like it if...” was a response to a provocation. Yet she framed it as a story to paint Maiki as the aggressor and Lloyd as a victim. That isn't journalism. It’s a political hit job. #DirtyPolitics

English

@Mountain_Tui @LloydBurr @MaikiSherman Now you’re reading way too much into what I said!
Perhaps you’re suffering from some cognitive dissonance?
English

@DetectiveDick4 @LloydBurr @MaikiSherman Don't you follow Ani and her friends? They have all confirmed it. The fact you call facts conspiracy shows where you sit though.

English

Wait! So @LloydBurr & Stuff threatened to sue to prevent mention of his alleged sexual / race based slur to @MaikiSherman & Ani O'Brien just omitted it. So the blogger left the critical context out of her blog.
National wanted Sherman gone, Burr protected - so obvious.

Amazonia - Kaua e tautohetohe ki nga riwai@Jandal_It
@LloydBurr did you call @MaikiSherman Hangi Pants, a derogatory, deeply misogynistic, White Supremacist term implying a wahine Māori is promiscuous? Only then did she ask how you would feel if she called you a 'slur'? But only she got attacked? @aniobrien? Comments?
