@Faggle5 @_nateschwartz 2 secs from what? He’s waiting for the umps call. They normally don’t verbally say “ball”. They need to start saying it then.

This was considered "not quick enough" to challenge the pitch. Absolutely ridiculous and I hope umps don't try to abuse this

Source confirms that deferrals in contract will put net present value in mid-$130M range, as @Joelsherman1 said. Deal is huge acknowledgement of Hoerner’s defensive value. He has just 36 career home runs. Contract starts next season.

Source confirms: Nico Hoerner’s six-year extension with the Cubs is worth $141M, source tells @TheAthletic. Fourth-largest guarantee for a second baseman, behind Robinson Cano (10/240), Marcus Semien (7/175) and Jose Altuve (7/163.5). First: @JeffPassan

@ballskwok Zero chance we extend Happ. Need to move on. Shaw will play LF and maybe one of the prospects can tear up minors this year.

Need to extend one of Ian or Seiya. My money is on Ian, but Seiya would make sense too.

Richie Garcia, former MLB umpire, on ABS system (via @AP): "I think it's embarrassing, embarrassing to the umpires that are calling the game. Nobody likes to be humiliated in front of 30,000, 40,000 people."

@JeffPassan So If it starts in 2027 then its a 7 year contract at 116M. You gotta add in salary for 2026 since its part of this "New" contract & hasnt been played yet. 7 years at basically 116M is a really good contract for the Cubs because it guaranteed to pay out. (Health assumed)

@DeuceBaseman @ChiefCub No it wouldn’t that’s my point. Would just tack on a small raise this year and then be the same deal after that. The cubs bought out 2 years of free agency and have Pete for 7 more years hence why I labeled it a 7 year deal that’s 6 because they decided to start the raise in 27

@ChiefCub Yes but many of these pre arb deals like the acuna and Carrol deals wipe out some pre arb too for a small raise. It easily could have been 7 for 118 with a small raise for this year and people would think it’s a better deal than this one is my point.

@OnDeckJeff @GoldyHappens CF is def easier than the corners, but you need a higher quality skill set, speed/reads. It’s easier to play, but need to be more skilled.

Cap management is not just about the current year but also planning for future years. Within the next 12 months, Darnell Wright will be a top 2 paid tackle and Caleb will be the top paid QB. In order to do that, you can’t go out a foolishly spend cap dollars on players that don’t have a long term future. Fans think about today.poles job is to think about this year and the next 3 years. It means being careful with who gets paid and has nothing to do with cash available. There has been a myth for years that the Bears don’t spend and it’s fucking laughable how untrue that statement is
